So I just finished the Soviet campaign. That last mission, what an epic battle. It cost me 67% of my forces, but in the last 5 minutes I finally managed to take the last remaining objective at the Rhine river. The first 4 mission against German territorial and army units I found quite easy, with only light losses on my side. I was especially low on tank losses with most of the fighting done by the MR regiment, with the main striking power of the tank regiment mostly used for exploitation and VP grabbing in the second part of the mission (often after enemy Sudden Death was already offered). Mission 5 came quite as a shock in comparison, being a night battle against the Americans. The AI played surprisingly defensive (I guess because of the two 10'000 VP at the Rhine) and did not do any counter attacks with tanks, which has often played to my advantage in previous scenarios. For the first time I had to commit the tank regiment to assault instead of exploit and those tanks just melted away like ice in the sun. This one Bradley platoon killed 7 T-80BV in a single salvo. Top scorer of the enemy was a M1A1 platoon with 28 tank and 13 APC kills. Another killer was the American superiority in artillery, both the counter battery fire and the steady stream of thermal imaging spotted missions on my positions. The enemy field artillery battalion (excluding mortars) scored 120 kills. Ouch! Overall a great campaign for a great game. quote:
