Does anyone know if it will be possible to play the forthcoming mega-campaign against a human opponent? PBEM? On-line?

My guess is that no, you will not be able to conduct the entire campaign as a whole against a human opponent, at least not the Desert Fox Mega Campaign. It is complex enough handling the campaign progression for one human player; handling this for more than one human player (especially on opposing sides), is perhaps too daunting a task to handle with any fairness. Player vs player action is probably best kept to individual battle scenarios. If a "campaign" is desired, then players can simply game through a given battle scenario then a human "gamemaster" can factor the results of the battle into establishing conditions for designing the next battle scenario. Of course, this requires someone to serve as "gamemaster" who can at least feign impartiality with regard to the campaign progression. For expediency, an entire "tree" of battle scenarios can be prepared in advance, with progression through the tree determined by victory in the preceding battles. However, care must be taken to accommodate both sides equally, and when all is said and done, many of the prepared battles will not be utilized in the execution of the campaign. If a multiplayer equivalent of a MegaCampaign is to be created, it will have to follow this path of balance. If Desert Fox is indeed single player as I suspect, certain liberties can be taken with the campaign design to craft missions centered around the sole human player, and balance is not so much a concern as is scaling difficulty for the sole human player. Of course, I could be completely wrong. I guess we will find out soon. :)

Thanks, RC and Tankhead. I suspected as much but was holding out hope.
