The notes for the most recent patch say --
"New symbol 19 (Commando/raider) was added in build 1112. This acts like symbol 13 in games started before 1123.
In newer games, parachute symbol (13) units can drop from planes, and commando symbol (19) units can be moved by submarine. Both types can be moved by seaplane to an enemy base."

I made a quick scan of the US ground units via the editor for Scenario 1. I did not find any with a symbol 19 designation, not even the US Marine Raider Battalions. Have other players checked to see if there are US (or other allied) LCUs that are labeled commando, and that can in fact assault enemy bases from US sub transports (SSTs)?

I look at the type in-game.

Go to your ground units screen (either globally by pressing G or at a base). Look at the "Type". Paratroop-capable units are INFp. Regular infantry are INF.

You can drop troops via SST of any type, however Paratroops can do it in Combat mode. I'm not sure it makes a difference - so far as I can tell, the troops that you land via SST in Move mode don't seem to take a penalty for fighting in Move. So you can indeed drop USMC Raider Battalions via SST.

Thanks, Lokasenna. That has also been my experience in previous games.

Has anyone seen new games working differently, as the patch note suggests?

Most of us are probably thinking the same thing (and I suspect the original poster knew it). It may be an urban legend, but the story is the term came from special forces in Viet Nam who would do away with a layer of clothing to avoid health problems from the jungle heat.

This is what it meant for us as teenagers, however Chuck Norris was kinda cooler

I´ve completely forgotten about that movie. Wasn´t there like an alternative ending to that one as well? A friend of mine managed get his relative who was living in London to send him a VHS of the uncensored version! We were the coolest kids in school for a couple of days!

These were the days right ? If you got that cool VHS movies and the hottest new (C64) games. Today it#s all about apple stuff for the teens :P

I cannot remember teh Commando movie well, not an Arnie fan really. But Invasion USA or Delta Force from Chuckie are still today must see movies :)

Of course now I watch only more cultural and thoughtful movies ahem Which is true to a decree I believe that eg. Blade Runner, The Thin Red Line or Pulp Fiction all have much to say about human nature or of were did we come from and where do we go....or even what has put evil in our world etc. Bit OT

I can't recall ever seeing a Chuck Norris movie. Reading this thread on old movies like this reminds me of the day my wargaming buddy and I watched Red Dawn while we were playing a game of something. It was one of the least likely movies I could imagine when I was 16 and my opinion of it has dropped over time. The premise was simply impossible. And I've heard someone wants to do a remake. A remake of old Ed Wood movies would be better, with the same props!

They did the remake - in 2012!

They also did an Australian take on it in 2010.

One wonders why anyone would bother with a remake. I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes, it had a 12% score. Amazing it was that high.

But the original Red Dawn did develop a bit of a cult following, and IIRC one of the Call of Duty games had a 'Red Dawn' scenario, so maybe they thought a new cast of young stars could capitalize on the renewed interest?

My favorite cult film was "Eraserhead", but I couldn't find anyone else in the cult. I couldn't stop laughing when watching it. Some people ask me how I acquired my brain damage.

You NEED to see this... best of Chucky. We laughed our asses of 20 yrs or so ago. His comments are so funny and the other people in the movie do not stand back... already the beginning is kinda cult. Boat of refugees is sighted by US coast guard cutter... he boards. Poor refugees look up to the officer... what will he say. Do they need to go back to their hell country or can they go the paradise of the USA ??? Well the officer say, "the US welcomes you".. all the refugees cheer and laugh. Then the officer gives a nick, all hell breaks loose every MG on the cutter fires and slaughteres the poor people After a while nothing does move... "chease fire". One guy keeps firing.. he enjoys it so much... a guy with sunglasses of course. "I said chease fire!!". Guy still fires, looks up and is sad he finally needs to stop firing lol. And the music fits perfectly. LOL. This is a movie for laughs and action. There are at least 10 cool Chucky one liners after that some guys gets hurt or die horribly lol

Youtube has the trailer and a Spanish or French FULL version

Wasnt that with P. Swayze ? A very young one. Guess as youngsters you took it seriously with the Russian paras landing everywhere etc. However this is kind of unrelated but check out "Bestie Krieg".. English title ...beast of war...

This is more action and thriller than war, but also kinda cool but quite unkown for some reason...

My favorite "commie invasion" movie is "The Russians are Coming." Great family flick if you like comedies, and certainly more likely than Red Dawn...
