Pike & Shot is a tactical wargame centered on the actual battles with a simple operational layer. Thirty Years War is a deeper strategic/operational wargame where battles are mostly auto-resolved.

It's not really a matter of which is better but rather what kind of wargame do you prefer.

+1, Nico.

Pike and Shot with the campaign is an amazingly good game, however. You can also jump right in. AGEOD I love, but it is an acquired taste, so use caution if it's your first game in the series. If so, try to find one of the older titles on sale.

Genre differences aside, P&S:C definitely feels more tight and polished. On the other hand, its been out longer.

Like Spanish Civil War, which I bought, I don't expect much support from this title - so surprise me

And yes I know it's one developer. Well, that one developer gets his full share, rather than sharing revenues with three others, so that's no excuse in my mind for patches and improvements that take forever or never come, a la SCW.

Don't mean to offend (I have all AGEOD games) but this trend is annoying.

I managed to alter the scroll sensitivity settings manually by editing some config files and as a result the game became a much more enjoyable experience. Just a heads up for those who already bought it and are somewhat turned off.
Because the game felt really choppy when panning the screen by default.
