I have made some attempts to learn to play before, but there was always some distraction, but the last few days I've made some good efforts in tackling WitP AE.
I played Coral Sea and that ended in a draw, I believe due to the fact that the Japanese made a big push on the 13th and 14th, where their TF with the two carriers caused serious damage just before the scenario ended.

Seeing the amount of aircraft they brought with them, I am wondering how one could ever turn this into a win, without just running circles with your Carrier groups hoping the Japanese will follow them instead of invading Port Moresby before the timer runs out.

This scenario doesn't even involve production and supply, but its there with a lesson I would say. It just seems like your tools are pretty limited.

Is a draw a common result? Did I do well with a draw? Should I continue to Guadalcanal?
Would it be a good idea to play that, make sort of an AAR so you guys can follow along and learn that intricacies of the game this way? (I have seen the tutorial videos and think I grasp the basic mechanics)

Cheers men!

The Allied player is hampered by both poor coordination for his carriers plus inexperienced crews for his surface ships. And at that stage of the game the Allies have pretty anemic AA on their ships. A draw is not a bad deal. They historically pulled off a tactical draw but it prevented the invasion. I would say that anything that prevents an invasion and does not cost you two carriers is a win.

My experience with this scenario was more ironic. I played it several times when I first got the game in January of this year, and did pretty well with both sides. Recently, with the benefit of several months' experience, I played the scenario again ... and got wiped out.

Did you over-think it?

Probably overconfident and certainly underprudent.

Sounds like something I would do.

Lol, that tends to happen to me with more complex games too! Once you have some experience and want to play the system you get you ass handed to you.
I'll go ahead and start Guadalcanal in the coming days and make it an AAR so I can shoot some direct questions to this community.
Hope you guys will take a look!
