Don't know if this was asked before. Is there a way that this game engine can be adapted to World War 2 naval and air battles

THIS is what's really needing in the gaming market today, a badass WW2 Pacific operational game. Even better, set it up as a campaign. (And no, Order of Battle: Pacific does not count. While a good game, it's not a good sim.)

I've got WITP. Great game. More strategic than operational, IMO. To me, operational carrier games go by real time or hours. WITP is more like days.

I'm thinking of a game more on the line of the old Carrier Strike, where surviving ships could appear in later battles, or sunken ships could sorta live again as renamed Essex class, etc...

However, I do not see why this Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations could not have an expac focused on carriers from 1920 to 1945. The interwar period and WW2 would be cool.

We've thought about it and even gamed through what it would take to implement. Our thoughts are it is a bunch of work and we know there are many good ww2 naval games out there. So we've added it to the long term maybe list.

Thanks for asking though. In the meantime checkout Paul's Cold War DB that's included in the game now. There are lots of WW2 units that served well into the Cold War.

thanks

I was hoping that the database would go back to 1939. I would love to use command to build a Battle of Britain scenario or campaign (with inferno now). I'd love to see how the game would show us different or interesting outcomes.

Anyhow Mike I'm really enjoying inferno.

You have got to keep in mind that the operational level of situational awareness was almost nil for the higher command chain.
CMANO lets you handle conflicts as if you were in a modern warfare command & control HQ. CMANO enables you to be aware of a huge amount of information, which you can follow live. This may be close to todays information and communications technology. But it doesn't apply at all for the average WW2 scenario.
Sure, they had war rooms to gather information and create situational briefings. But these were at least hours behind the facts. The operational air war centers during the Battle of Britain or the German air defense HQs were probably as close as you could get. All other operations mostly didn't have a clue what is going on for hours or even days. So the role you play in Command-Modern-ANO in modern scenarios is not really existent for WW2. It might be fun to control WW2 combats in CMANO style but it would be far from any realism. You would basically have to cheat in the all-seeing-eye all the time.

In Operation Husky, the allied landing on Sicily, they didn't have a clue for half a week if missing transport ships were sunk or rerouted or what happened at all.

Even in the modern scenarios we sometimes "know too much" in CMANO. Probably because there has to be a reasonable balance between simulating the Fog of War and fun. If we had several levels of FoW accuracy setting, WW2 scenarios would certainly reside at the low "unrealistic" limit of the setting range, maybe even beyond that.

It would be nice to try out Battle of Britain obviously having the 'Home Chain System' etc would be crucial to trying to replicate it.

You can still have a lot of fun with the WW2 units that are in the database right now if you're impatient like me! I've recreated some of the more known WW2 fights, and while it's not perfect, it still delivers.

Here's a throwback to V1.03 and the US 3rd Fleet in late 1944 that I put together. You can see just how many units are already in the sim. Yes, everything is accurate, including the aircraft squadrons.)

+1 for BoB as well! I know Gary Grigsby has already given it his treatment, but I think it would be simply exceptional to have it in this engine. May need some scripting or engine mods to restrict command to within HF range of the sector ops centers, but I be it's doable!

This was something I started working on (and got most of the OOB research done), but never was able to figure out how to get it playable. Now that lua is a thing I may try and pick it up again.

I purchased WITP-AE in 2011 and still play it faithfully. Prior to WITP-AE I have Uncommon Valor, and War in the Pacific but do not play them anymore. WITP-AE is the best of the best in my opinion.
