When you have military control over a region, what benefits does it bring?

Supply is one that I know of.

What about resources? If I have military control over a region with an arsenal, a stud farm, a treasury and a gun foundry, do I receive war supplies and horses and money because I have military control over that region? (I assume that the owner of that region doesn't receive these assets if I control his region.)

What about taking ownership of a region? I haven't been able to figure out what the criteria are for demanding ownership of a region as part of a peace treaty.

For example: On my peace options with Prussia, Hamburg is available, but Magdeburg is not. This is in spite of the fact that I have military control over both places, and French loyalty is higher in Magdeburg than in Hamburg.

you are right that military control denies assets to your opponent. it also speeds movement, makes march to the sound of the guns more likely and allows safe retreat if you lose a battle.

However, loyalty is also important if you want to claim provinces in a peace or extract resources.

so the two interact but mc is much easier to gain/lose.

if you want to raise loyalty there are some regional decisions and some commanders have a trait that will raise loyalty. But both are long term projects.

Also when you propose a peace treaty there should be a list of provinces you can choose from to annex. By choosing the province it will show you how much war score you need to actually annex it. I have had numerous provinces listed for annexation while not having any loyalty or military control in those provinces.

for peace treaties the test is loyalty in adjacent provinces. So it is possible to grab border provinces to which you have little local loyalty,

So you are saying that the little meter that goes from green to red with it's needle (like a gas gauge) is testing loyalty? I didn't get that from it at all. It seemed to me to be like war score in the Europa Universalis games.

Each province you select has a number associated with it that will add or subtract from the meter, an "annexation cost" if you will. I found this to be based on the message I received at the start of a new turn which was something to the effect of (paraphrased) "You gained 2 war score this turn bringing your total to 14".

Am I wrong in this loki100 and missing something?

no its just there are several factors at play. The cost of province 'X' has a number of aspects. One is if its the nation's capital, another is development but also loyalty to you comes into play. There is a basic threshold score (you must have 20% in an adjacent province) and then the actual costs comes down as you have more loyalty.

This is a legacy of Pride of Nations but actually the ability to grab provinces is more liberal in WoN as there was a lot of (short lived) territorial adjustments in the era.

So yes you create a warscore by battles and conquest and you spend it on the treaty. But the costs of gains are variable. Also not a good idea to always use up all your warscore. Whats left is doubled and added to your relations - so you can win big, make small gains and have a chance of a long term ally. Or cash in all your gains and have a long term enemy.

This is very interesting!
I did not know it was possible to choose to annex only one of the offered provinces.
How do I do that?

ah sorry, I was being a bit misleading. If you have an offer from the AI you either take all of it or reject the offer - its just sometimes the AI will offer a very juicy deal to end the war. You can only choose how to use up (or not) your warscore when you put together your own peace deal
