Playing DBB-C with stack limits. Scenario 30. Just starting planning my limited December 7 turn. I'll come up with a catchy name later.

House Rules:
1. No carrier hunting first 3 turns
2. No drastically ahistorical first turn invasion options by Japan.
3. No changing status/orders for Allied forces turn 1. (China okay)
4. No air transfers turn 1.
5. No new TF turn 1
6. Any current TF can move turn 1. No transfer ships from port to these TF turn 1.
7. Sweeps 1941 = 15k
1942 = 20k
1943 = 24k
1944 = 28k
1945 = 32k
1946 = 32k
8. No cheesy single ship TF tactics.
9. No Chinese troops in Burma
10. No Thai troops outside Thailand except into Burma
11. Pay PP to cross borders.
12. Strategic bombing banned until '43
13. No 4e bombing under 10k against naval/ground

Basic plans:
NORPAC - Run out of Prince Rupert

CENPAC - Defend Pearl Harbor initially.

SOPAC - Build bases at Noumea, Pago Pago, and Suva

SWPAC - Defend New Zealand and Australia

DEI - Hold Palembang and Java as long as possible

Malaya - Hold Singapore as long as possible

PI - Attempt to evacuate as many airframes and ships as possible.

China - Hold key supply generation cities. Attempt to keep from being overrun.

Burma, India - Establish supply depots in Karachi.

Lots of carnage on December 7, 1941. No Pearl Harbor and Manila got devastated. But not all bad. So on to the actual action.

NORPAC - Nothing happened in the frozen north.

CENPAC - Spotted hordes of submarines around Pearl Harbor but no mini-subs entered the harbor and nothing else happened.

SOPAC - Nothing happened in the tropical south.

SWPAC - Nothing happened in the land of Oz.

China - Pengpu is attacked and the 89th Chinese Corps was defeated losing 730 men to 159 Japanese. Hong Kong was attacked twice via air. The first was composed of IJA single engine bombers with 39 bomb hits on 5 xAK and 3 xAKL. The second raid by a dozen Lily's laid a half dozen more hits. The repair facility and port were also damaged.

DEI - 22 Netties launched an attack on POW and Repulse with no damage. POW and Repulse will continue on south towards Java.

Malaysia - Part of the KB is off the coast of Singapore with the only confirmed CVs being Kaga and Akagi. Raids were launched on Singapore port. 9 ships including the xAP Dominion Monarch and CL Mauritius. 19 Buffalos are destroyed in the first day. Very bad return. However a good thing happened here. Several separate waves launched on the portion of the KB closest to Singapore as Blenheim, Wirraway, and Buffalos located the force. The initial attack was devastated. The second wave following close on its heels of a couple Hudsons escorted by a flight of Buffalos at least reached the carrier to miss on their attack. The third wave of a pair of Vildebeests flew over the carrier untouched by the CAP now out of posistion but failed in their runs. However the fourth wave of 8 Wildebeests finally achieved some success as they planted a pair of 500lb bombs on the Kaga's flight deck. The fifth and final wave of a pair of swordfish (torpedoless) also missed. A dozen planes shot down for 2 500lb bombs on a KB carrier.

Invasion wise, Kuantan and Kota Bahru were both invaded on this turn.

PI - Saving the best or in this case most devastating for last. Manila was the target of the remainder of the KB. Starting the day came a full group of Betties devastating the P40s and PBYs in Manila. Following this wave came a second group attacking the ports and damaging DD Pope, SS Sailfish, SS Sculpin, and AM Whippoorill with a single 800kg bomb each. The third wave of the KB devastated the remainder of the port. DD Peary, xAP Don Esteban, SS Swordfish, TK La Estrella Caltex, xAKL Comapgnia Filipinas, and xAK Rochambeau are all sunk with the latter blowing up from a massive secondary explosion (what was it loaded with fertilizer?) 13 other submarines are hit. The ARD is on fire. The Langley is vurning. The President Madison and Neptuna are also on fire. All told 15 ships were sunk between Manila and Singapore.

On the remainder of the island Aparri, Jolo, Davao, Loang, and San Fernando were all invaded.

All told for the day ... not the worst 63 lost planes to 27 for Japan (11 Vals included in this). Pearl Harbor is unscathed and Force Z escaped untouched.

Now how to the Allies respond.

Think about getting the subs with minimal float damage (under 60) away. now.

Welcome! I'll be following as a fellow player who has just recently got back into the wonderful world of WitP.

I'm not super-familiar with DBB-C, but just in general:
-Resist the urge to strike back too early (wait till after the first 6 months at a minimum).

-In China, pull back your forces to defensible terrain, the Japanese airforce will hammer you if you stay in open terrain. Actually they will hammer you in defensible terrain too, it just won't be nearly as effective.

Good luck! And don't let Tokyo Rose's trash talk get you down.

WAR DECLARED ON JAPAN! MANILA ATTACKED! FDR CALLS IT A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY!

NORPAC - Immediately plans are put into action to prepare to defend the Canadian and Alaskan coast. Prince Rupert will be built up to provide support for this region with all of the base forces of Canada shipped here to expand the port and airfield. All along the West Coast short ranged cargo ships, tankers, and patrol ships are ordered to sail to the Canadian port.

CENPAC - Numerous submarines are located surrounding Pearl Harbor. Fighters are stood down to build morale as the KB is located off the Philippines and Singapore. All bombers and patrol planes begin running heavy anti-submarine ops. Two small task groups of destroyers begin hunting for the submarines spotted by earlier flights. The aircraft carrier Lexington begins heading to Wake Island to evacuate the small marine fighter detachment. Than the Lady Lex and Enterprise will rendezvous off of Canton Island to decide on further actions.

SOPAC - Not much to do at the moment.

SWPAC - Fuel, auxiliaries, and supplies being evacuated from danger is being directed at Darwin to start. Looking at ideas for the defense of the region but nothing begun as of yet.

China - Trying to evacuate to good defensive positions. Small counterattack at Ichang begun to try and cut off exposed Japanese forces there.

DEI - Mining Palembang. Evacuating as much as possible to Soreabaja and Batavia. ARDs on the way to Oz. Surface task forces organizing at Soreabaja.

Malaya - Pulling troops back to cover Singapore to prevent being cutoff. Readied aircraft for another lucky strike on the KB division off the coast. Force Z ordered to Soreabaja.

PI - Everything that can float is ordered out. B-17s in Mindinao bought out and sent south as their air bases are already under threat. All fully operation subs have new skippers and sent on war patrols. All damaged subs with a chance sent to Oz to repair. We will see what can sneak out with the KB sitting just 2 hexes off Manila. Sent what was left of my surface forces after the ships on a prayer/suicide run.

December 8, 1941.

With World War II on just its second day things looked bleak in Southeast Asia. Massive air raids had devastated the fleets based in Cavite and Singapore. 63 planes destroyed on the first day with another 75 on the second. 41 ships lost. Landings in the Philippines and Malayan peninsula. Enemy submarines ringing the island of Oahu. A United States caught unprepared and a British Commonwealth already in a life and death struggle against Nazi Germany now faced a new enemy.

December 8 began with the drone of air raid sirens as four massive waves of bombers and fighters roared over Manila. But unlike December 7, the American and Filipino forces were preparing. Basically untouched in the December 7 attacks, fighter on combat air patrol and scrambling from their airfields raced skyward to oppose the treacherous Japanese aircraft. 26 Modern P-40 fighters and 11 older fighters intercepted the first wave of 71 Japanese planes. 42 Zeroes versus 37 Allied fighter craft and the Japanese did not have free reign anymore. Only 3 Allied fighters were shot down as the Zeroes struggled to defend their bombers. Their struggle was in vain as 3 enemy bombers were shot down with a defending Zero. But it was not enough as the remaining 28 bombers rained bombs down on the already battered naval yard hitting 4 already crippled ships. Yet the range was long for the Zeroes and they were unable to remain to cover the following two squadrons of bombers. 10 more bombers were shot down by the defending fighters and another was shot down by the waiting flak gunners. When the final raid came in from the carriers of the Imperial Japanese fleet, the Allied fighters were low on fuel and ammo and only 20 could try and stop the Vals and Kates of the KB. A single Kate and Val were destroyed by the escorting Zeroes for the loss of three more precious fighters. Another half dozen ships were blasted apart by the raid with barely anything intact in the harbor.

Off the coast anything that could float in the Philippines was racing south at full speed. Strike after strike of Japanese planes attacked small bunches of Allied ships. Few if any will make it to safety. Possible only the submarines that escaped the attacks on December 7 would make it to safety. Aparri, Ligan, San Fernando, Laong, Davao, Jolo, and Zamboaga all fell to Japanese amphibious forces.

In Malaysia, attempts to evacuate forces south towards Singapore will probably fail as a Japanese invasion force lands at Mersing on the southern tip of the peninsula. Attempts to evacuate forces by sea towards Burma failed as anti-shipping strikes devastate the ships attempting to flee Singapore. Not all is bad as the brave aerial defenders of Singapore launch a second days worth of airstrikes at the KB division off its coast. On December 7 the carrier Kaga was hit by British naval bombers. On December 8, both the Akagi and Kaga were struck by a squadron of Vildebeests. Another pair of bombs slams into Kaga. But three bombs strike Akagi and as the final wave of Blenheim bombers attempts to strike the damaged carrier they were unable to accurately sight in due to the heavy smoke pouring from the vessel.

In the undersea world of the submarines, fighting also began as the Allied submarine S-36 makes the first kill of the war. She torpedoes a Japanese fast transport APD Shimikaze off Aparri but not before it had finished landing its troops. The Japanese get revenge however putting a torpedo into the side of the CA Indianapolis but she will safely make it to Pearl barring another attack. The Dutch do even better than the Americans as the KXII hits a pair of Japanese transports off Kota Bharu putting four fish into the Manzyru Maru and three more into the Ibiru Maru. Both ships still carried Japanese soldiers.

In the last major action of the day, the CL Boise encountered a Japanese surface force and was hammered hard. She put a single shell into the CA Ashigara but took a dozen hits herself (37-28-1-1). She should successfully escape to Java for repairs but her days of raiding are done for the near term.
