I've been an FPS'er since way back. Came from 3rd person adventure games, you know the quest series. Once i loaded up that wolfenstein shareware disk from what ever that magazine was i was hooked. Played every FPS i could get my hands on back then, it just seemed awesome. Played FPS before i even knew about computer wargames. Did a bit of multiplayer FPS back in the day with clans with Quake, TFC and DOD, wasn't easy on dialup. Don't do much of the multiplayer FPS these days for various reasons, the knuckleheadedness of online players is one and the time commitment is another. You have to spend a bit of time with a game to get up to snuff. It can be a rewarding game experience with a bunch of like minded players. I have a new computer so i can catch up on some FPS goodness i missed, there's quite a few in my steam backlog i've been waiting to play, Rage, stalker series, newer Farcry's. I put the open world FPS's in a different category, there just a different mood for me. Nothing like a well done FPS on rails with a good environment and a bit of tactical choice in your approach, plus they actually end. I'm not talking DOOM 3 on rails type, i still haven't finished that one. Some of my favorites from days gone past are Halflife, F.E.A.R., Farcry, Call of Juarez, Serious Sam and of course all the really oldies i.e Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem, Heretic, Blood, Decent, probably a lot more i'm forgetting. One thing that didn't bother me back then but drives me to rage quit some FPS now is the old lock you in a room with a bunch of bad guys/things and you ain't getting out until everything is dead, O did i forget to mention you'll be low health and not have much ammo. the control the difficulty through keeping you low on health and without ammo is something i'm not a big fan of these days, not too mention a checkpoint system.I'll usually have one FPS going as a change of pace to my wargaming, currently playing Extraction point a DLC to the original F.E.A.R. Nothing closet about my enjoyment of FPS games, I'll play whatever is fun for me.
