Hi all i'm aware that there are numerous scenarios in command for the falklands war, 3 i think? well which one do you all rate the best? and the one which is most complete in terms of all air/naval forces that were used by both sides in the war, and which one covers everything and not just one single air engagement? thanks in advance.

I've finished one covering submarine action-- Prelude to a Come-Uppance; it's probably not everyone's cup of tea but I wanted to do something simple for my first published scen It's a quick submarine recon scenario that you could probably knock over in 2 or so hours of real time.

I'm working on and beta-testing another, Good Morning Malvinas more ambitious scenario covering the first day of action on 1 May. Only the British side is playable, but the scenario covers:
--Insertion of special forces (both by helo landing, and helo drops of RHIBs at sea),
--Fleet protection and CAP AAW action as historically accurate as possible (down to flight names and loadouts for the Argentine aircraft) plus a few extras thrown in to keep the pace going,
--Special actions that involve other countries or authorise the (AI) RN subs to attack--each with a trade-off
--Accurate depiction of forces involved. i.e. the Argentine CVBG is present with its air wing, and so are the Belgrano and Drummond SAGs. The player can go after them and may score well, but that's not the actual mission.
--Weather matched to the historical conditions; changing throughout the day
--ASW prosecution as historically occurred (Yarmouth and Broadsword looking for the San Luis just north of the islands)
--Naval gunfire support on Stanley, and the ensuing air attack that put an end to daylight NGS for the rest of the conflict
--And more...

So I'd vote for my own scenario Good Morning Malvinas having most of what you're after.

There are two other scens in the community pack. The first, Falkland War by an unknown author is more of a sandbox, and you have lots and lots of units. The second, Malvinas - The Pincer again by an unknown author is playable by both sides and quite detailed. Both are set up to have attrition as the main gameplay factor, as win/loss is calculated essentially by who kills more enemies. Both are also quite old DB builds, and obviously due to their age don't take advantage of lua for things like changing weather, randomly generating biologicals, etc

As I'm focusing on the Falklands conflict for the next little while (next scen will be based on the re-taking of South Georgia, and maybe a larger more complex one after that) I'd really like to hear suggestions or requests for features, plotlines or anything else you'd like to see in a Falklands scenario.

Hi

I´ve made two small scenarios based on real events and units, wich were posted early on ( María & Victoria and Buenos Aires Express.), and a third hypothetical one, Cape Horn Rush.
I´m preparing two other medium scenarios.

Apache, good morning malvinas sounds great, just what i'm after but the others i've come across are worth a shot too. I went through the community scen pack and yea i seen those Patmanaut. I'll be playing all scenarios available so i will at some point get round to playing all of them.

At the moment i'm still on Canarys Cage, have recently lost 2 subs trying to sink the amphibious group after 2 air strikes only managed to sink one of the 4 vessels. The one sub managed to sink another before getting sunk itself by an ASW chopper. Have one massive coordinated strike planned using a 12 ship SEAD strike with HARMs on the amphibious groups' escorts whilst an 8 ship strike element using GBU-10E with ECM escort will strike the amphibious group and its closest escort. These will also be covered by an 8 ship harrier fighter sweep, possibly more fighters from rota and torrejon but refuelling all these a/c is difficult with 4 tankers.

Have you both played Canarys Cage and how did you find it? its been the best scenario i've played so far.

Just played through Maria & Victoria; I'd played it quite a while ago and hadn't had the patience or experience with CMANO to enjoy it as much as I did now. I managed to sink all three of the amphibs, as well as an MCM (fishing boat?) that wandered right over the top of me. I found that with all the Brit frigates having older sonar sets, finding a spot in the expected path and doing my best impersonation of a rock on the sea floor (full stop, as deep as possible at about -450ft which was just below the thermocline) meant that the frigates that came close just wandered on past. I don't think any of them had VDS, which would have made things more challenging. Possibly explains why San Luis was able to get away unscathed in the real war.

Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I only got a minor victory, but I followed through on the orders I had and also in the real war losses like that would have won the war for the Argentines... Or resulted in a huge escalation! So pretty happy overall. Thanks Patmanaut!

If only there's a campaign-system update in the future... It will be far more interesting to see an entire Falkland war separated into waves and different outcomes, based on the remaining units and weapons each battle has completed.

I had actually thought of doing a scenario that covers a longer time period; maybe up to a week. It would include reinforcements, air drops of supplies from Ascension, possibly even political interference (restrictions on ops, objectives with more political than military value, etc) and a heavy focus on logistics. For this to stay interesting I'd want to set up abstracted ground ops and have semi-random calls for CAS or NGS to keep the player busy. It would need to depart from historical accuracy in terms of time-frame, and would be a huge undertaking, so I'm holding off for now... But the more I think about it, the more it appeals to me.

Go for that chief - CMANO definitely deserves its potential to be expanded to include scenarios covering full blown maritime operations if not entire naval campaigns - however even with that being a real time strategy type of game, the time compression tool should generally make it capable of handling scenarios that would last for weeks on end - if only one has a patience and is committed enough to play it on through the very end. I know many turn based wargames that have scenarios spanning for hundreds of turns; even if they don't get that much reception for obvious reasons, people are given the chance to test them and themselves.
The Falklands War makes a virtually ideal material for turning that into a linked scenario set campaign ( like the official addon Northern Inferno) or a single campaign scenario. I'd play and play-test everything
"Maria & Victoria" used to play out differently back in 2014 - partly because the way the game works have changes much for better and besides I have managed to master quite a few skills governing successful usage of submerged assets and ASuW from the depths.

Yeah Black Buck would be a nice one, not only for the main bomber missions but also the tanker support.

This video (21min 10 secs in) explains how it took 11 Victor tankers to refuel the single Vulcan.

There was also talk of a mission after Black Buck for Vulcans to conduct low level (300ft) attacks on the Argentine mainland airbases!

There is a scenario called Operation Black Buck 1 in the community pack; I've never been able to finish it because of my ineptitude with managing the refueling. It is possible however... I have heard

I might poach that idea for GMM or a future scenario. Must have a read of that book too.
