Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Final Production. Italy.

Italy's in the same boat as Japan, which is they have more factories than resources to feed them. However, they expect to be supplied more resources through trade with Germany.

Italy's oil situation is worse than Japan's. Italy has no organic source of oil and must rely on German. That is, unless they can continue their progress in the Middle East and capture CW oil resources.

Because of their fleet and air activity this turn, Italy burned two oil points, which put their stockpile down to 1. Because of rounding, Italy could save three oil points and achieve the same BP production as if they had save two oil points and used the third for production. It's important to pay attention to such things, otherwise, Italy would be throwing away an oil point.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. USA Entry Options.

The USA first choose entry option 16, "Gift of destroyers to Commonwealth". This choice produced no response. Needing to get both tension levels to 11, which were below that, the USA then choose option 11, "US East Coast escorts", which did the trick. Actually more than I would have liked. The plan now is not to choose anything else until the USA can reach the levels required for 22(11), "Gear Up production". Next turn? Maybe?

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Trade. Germany to Italy.

Germany increases the amount of trade to Italy to 7 resource points, three of which are oil. This should get Italy to or near full production, especially if they replace the CP they lost in the East Med causing the Cyprus RP to go idle.

Helping German with all this is the fact they German deployed 2 Synth oil facilities this turn.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Initiative.

The axis win a tie since the allies moved both first and last last turn.

First roll. The axis roll a 7 and the allies a 4 (7 to 4). With the situation with Gort in Egypt and the likelihood that the Italians could finish him off if the axis get the initiate, the allies elect to reroll.

Second roll. The axis roll a 8 and the allies a 7 (8+1=9 to 7). The axis win and elect to move first.

Axis #1. Weather.

Italy does not need 11 factories producing at .75 multiplier. 10 suffice for 8 BPs, and you can save 1 extra oil.

10 * 0.75 = 7.5 , that is rounded up to 8.
11 * 0.75 = 8.25, that is rounded down to 8.

Small details which can make a long run difference in terms of Axis oil!

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #1. Italy. Egypt. Eastern Med.

Even with overwhelming numbers in ground units, the best odds that the Italians could get on Gort was < 5A, which is just too much of a risk. With no transports available for the next few turns, the Italians just couldn't risk losing 3 ground units. So the Italians decide not to attack but to use maneuver for now.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #1. Japan. Strategic Bombing Raid. China.

Japan also takes a land and uses one of two of their air missions for a strategic bombing raid on Sian. A raid which successfully reduces Chinese production by 1 PP.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #1. Japan. Ground Strike. China.

Japan uses the second of their two air missions for a ground strike on the two communist units in Tunghkwan. The ground strike is a failure.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied. CW. RN, East Med.

The CW takes a combine and uses that combine to both bring in reinforces into the East Med and save Wavell. The CW plans to use its three land moves to move Wavell and to deploy the 4-2 CAN corps and the British 2nd Inf Div along with him.

The CW declines to initiate naval combat.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied. East Med. Italian RM.

The Italians, as the non-phasing, do choose to initiate naval combat and are rewarded by being able to surprise the RN in the East Med and isolate sea box 0, which contains CW troop reinforcements.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied. East Med. Naval Combat, Round 1.

The Italian RM only manage to damage the CW transport when they had a chance to sink it. But, that's enough to prevent the Canadian corps from reaching Wavell and the Middle East.

In a strange twist of fate, up until this very moment, both the CW and Italians understood that the British 4th division was loaded on the BB Royal Sovereign. As such, the CW player chooses to place a damage result on the CA Fiji, which was actually carrying the infantry division. And the Italians decided to try to abort the BB. Oh well, fog of war ...

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied. East Med. Naval Combat, Round 2. Search.

Both sides decide to stay and the Italian RM against surprise the RN and isolates sea box 0, thinking that it needs to either damage, destroy or force the BB Royal Sovereign to abort in order to prevent the British 4th Infantry division from reaching Egypt.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied. East Med. Naval Combat, Round 2.

Target selection by both sides based on the mistaken assumption of where the 4th infantry division was loaded.

In the end, I believe overall result after these two rounds is pretty much what it should be anyway.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied. East Med. Naval Combat, Round 3. Search.

Both sides again decide to stay. The RN finally is able to end this naval battle. This battle is scored as a loss for the British as the Italians prevented them from bringing in reinforcements to the Middle East.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied. East Med. Middle East.

The CW goal now is to somehow prevent the Italians from getting 4 corps adjacent to and activating Iraq. That will take some kind of miracle.

The situation in the Middle East must be affecting the morale of RAF bomber crews in England. Three strategic bombing raids against Germany fail to have any impact.

Maybe too the RN in the West Med is morale is affected as their attempted port attack against La Spezia is driven away.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied. Yugoslavia. Land Combat.

With a 21% chance of destroying an Italian AA division the Yugoslavians launch a low odds attack, which misses destroying the division by rolling one number too HIGH.
