Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Allied #11. End of Turn. Actions & Weather Summary.

A very good impulse for the allies gets even better. The turn ends. If the allies can win the initiative next turn they will be able to expand their landings in Sicily to include possible forcing their way across to Reggio.

Does the 7-4 MOT in clear weather have the MPs to do that?

For initiative, the allies get a +2 and win ties. However, as been demonstrated in the recent past this doesn't guarantee that the allies will win the initiative. But it does give them a 89.9% chance of doing so.

It is beginning to look like the Allies are going to hold Singapore. This is a disaster for the Japanese, as the Allies can base a fleet there that is adjacent to the South China Sea and within two of the China Sea. These are thew two important sea areas in the Pacific. The only point of all the others is to get to those two. It the Allies can knock the Japanese convoys out of either, there goes the Japanese oil.

Yes, but it will disorganize itself if it does. For that matter, any of the three units in Syracuse can get to Reggio, disorganizing themselves to do so. For the MOT, Messina costs 3 MPs, and Reggio costs 4 more, while for the INFs, Messina costs 2 and Reggio 3 more. Thus moving to Messina does not use all MPs for either type, but moving to Reggio costs more MPs than your units have, so moving to Reggio is legal, but disorganizes the moving unit.

What about if it's storms in the Med?

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Trade.

The US liberates Algeria, which returns that country and one RP back to France. France turns around and gives that 1 RP in trade back to the USA.

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Initiative.

The axis (again) win the first roll. The allies think long and hard but in the end request a re-roll, which they win.

However, the weather roll betrays them with storms in the Med (20% chance).

Are there any Italian surrender rules?

If yes, what happens to the Italian holdings in the Near East?

In that case, any unit currently in Syracuse that moves to Messina flips, and stops there.

Are there any Italian surrender rules?

If yes, what happens to the Italian holdings in the Near East?

Yes. Italy surrender if three of the following are true: 1) Tripoli is Allied owned. 2) Rome is Allied owned. 3) At least one Italian factory not in Rome is Allied owned. 4) The Allies have a higher garrison value than the Italians in Italy. (Note that units in ZOCs do not count.)

This is an incomplete conquest, so Italian holdings outside of Italy stay Italian. All Italian land and air units in Italy are destroyed; those outside of Italy stay around.

This Italians have to think hard about this rule. Italian units in Italy keep Italy from surrendering; however, when the do surrender, Italian units in Italy, only, go away. So the Italians have to ask if they throw a bunch of units into Italy to keep Italy from surrendering, or do they pull all their units out of Italy so they don't lose them. There is no one right answer to this question; it depends on the situation.

Note that if the Germans hold Rome, it is very, very likely that Italy will be liberated (by the Axis) the turn after it is conquered. Then, when the Allies take Rome, all Italian units are removed from the game. This leads to the question do the Germans try to hold Rome, or not?

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Allied #1. Actions.

Even with storms in the Med, snow in the North Temperate and Blizzard in the Arctic the USA plays an o-chits and takes a super-combined. Not the only, but the main objective is to expand the allied bridgehead in Sicily and into the toe of Italy (i.e., Reggio).

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Allied #1. Western Allies. Italian Coast.

Here's the situation off the Italian Coast after the USA naval move. There's no chance of a naval battle off the Italian Coast due to storms in the Med and the fact that the Italians have only air (i.e, no SCS) in the area. No chance of a naval battle is just fine for the Western Allies this impulse. Getting more units ashore into Sicily and Italy is the focus of these naval forces (i.e., off the Italian Coast).

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Allied #1. Western Allies. Sicily. Toe of Italy.

The Western Allies do significantly expanded their beachhead in Sicily and do push into the toe of Italy. This is the reason and importance of the USA taking a super-combine.

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Allied #1. USN. RN. East Med.

In the East Med the lone USA naval unit, a submarine unit, tries but fails to initiate combat with the Vichy battleship. Note that because of the storm raging in the area that no air units could have played in the naval battle if it had taken place.
