quote:

ORIGINAL: Courtenay

The key thing about the garrison rules are that units in ZOCs don't count. Air units (except CVPs) and most corps count one, although ARM, MECH, and HQ-ARM corps count double. Divisions count half. German units do not count at all, only Italians. What tends to decide this in the Allies favor are all the Allied planes landing in Italy. The key is to have a region that is not ZOCed by the Axis.

At the moment, most the Allied units look like they are in ZOCs; the Allies should work on clearing out rear areas, so they can land their planes and have them count toward the garrison value.
Thanks! Good grief ... this game is addictive!

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Japan, Naval.

Japan took the combine primarily to move 2 organized CPs back into the South China Sea.

In the Timor sea they passed on trying to initiate a naval combat. Because the Japanese didn't add any additional units to the Timor Sea the USA, as the non-phasing player, wasn't given a chance to initiate combat.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Japan, Naval. China Sea.

However, in the China Sea the IJN tried but failed to initiate a naval combat.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Japan. ChiComm.

Japan used their three land moves of a combine in the south, so no changes to the Japanese lines in the north.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Japan. Southern China. Philippines.

In the south, Japanese forces move to flank the Nationalist Chinese. However, in reviewing their situation Japanese high command notes a serious error in their move. The error is that they left a lone AA division, which now defends with 1 (x 2 in mountains), facing the strength of Stilwell and the Nationalist Chinese. The allies can't wait to exploit this blunder during their impulse.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Italy. Ground Strike.

Italy forgets about the RAF Mosquito fighter unit rebased last turn to Italy. Italy sends a lone fighter unit on a ground strike mission. Fortunately for Italy, the Mosquito fighter unit only manages to force the Italian bomber to abort instead of shooting it down.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Italy.

No land combat, just movement by the Italians and Germans on the Italian front.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Italian Desert Army. Egypt.

In Egypt the Italians fire up their desert army and starting marching them towards Libya. The Italians wish to make the CW pay (more) for pulling Monty out of eastern Libya.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Germany. The Eastern Front. Land Combat. Voronezh, USSR.

The Germans continue their early spring offensive on the Eastern Front and capture the city of Voronezh. Not only did this attack capture the city and destroy a Soviet army unit, but it also resulted in the destruction of two disorganized Soviet fighter units that had taken refuge in that city.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Germany. The Eastern Front. Land Combat. [47, 63].

Another successful land combat by the Germans creates a wider hole in the middle of the Soviet lines.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. Germany. The Eastern Front. Land Combat. [53, 65].

A miracle (10% chance) saves Rokossov and the Soviet lines in the south.

It's interesting two of the three land combats, two were in the rain and went very well and the third was in fine weather, and should have went well but didn't. Such are the fortunes of war.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Axis #7. End of Turn.

And looking forward to their impulse with fine weather in the Med, in the Philippines and Southern China the turn ends on a roll of 1 against a 10% chance that it would end.

I admit that at this point in the game I'm more pro allied but try to play all sides straight up. Personally, I think the axis are doing very well and may win the game according to my victory conditions which are based on the number of historical objectives held at the end of the war.

If I hadn't mention before, MWiF is addictive and fun!

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Italy. Use Oil (part 1).

At first blush I thought that I had made a mistake by using the the last of the stored oil points in Italy proper for production last turn and not saved them for reorg. While Italy has plenty of saved oil points, these oil points are in Egypt and the Middle East and not available for reorg of units in the mainland because no SCS or NAV could be left at sea in the East Med. Things look bleak for Italian disorganized oil using units on the mainland ...

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Italy. Use Oil (part 2).

However, by clicking on "Include oil from cooperating major powers", these units could be reorganized using German oil and they were.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Initiative.

Unbelievable, the allies even with requesting a re-roll lose the initiative. Germany hopes to widen the hole they opened up in the Soviet lines at the end of last turn.

What horrible luck for the allies with last turn ending on a 1 against a 10%, losing the first roll for initiative with +2 and winning ties advantage and then losing the second roll with a +1 and winning ties advantage.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Axis #1. Germany. The Eastern Front, South.

Germany exploits getting to move two impulses in a row with fine weather for both impulses. A disaster is unfolding on the Eastern Front because and the Soviets can't do anything but watch.
