Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #1. The Western Front. French Armor Counterattack.

The French counterattack the weak spearhead of the German breakthrough west of the Maginot Line. Germany uses a 5 factor TAC to add 4 factors to the defense through defense air support. These four factors reduced the attack from a near automatic +19B to a more challenging +9B. Though the two German divisions are driven back, both survive and half of the French attacking units are disorganized.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #1. The Western Front.

The successful land combat by the French allows the allies to straighten their lines and ensure 2 or 3 units per front line stack.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Mayhemizer

As a French player (if I have time) I break down weak corps to get div to every front line hex.

Now Allies should give coastal hex to CW units, form as solid line as possible and make sure they have a unit behind every hex to prevent German break through. Empty Paris, German PARA is killed so that reinforcements come close to front line.

Done!

quote:

ORIGINAL: Centuur

This is what one calls a typical situation which happens on the Western front.
You were right to groundstrike the German hex with the British bomber, but the moment that ground strike failed, was the moment you needed to accept that you couldn't kill that stack. The French ART should not have been used to bombard at all, since it can't retreat and will become useless for the rest of the turn...
After the failed ground strike, the way to progress for the French is quite logical: retreat to make sure that a straight line from Calais to the Swiss border appears. That would have put the Germans back to basic: he can't attack any hex out of three hexes, therefore making it much more difficult to get to Paris, especially since the Luftwaffe is disorganised...

Done!

Big thanks to my two allied Generals, Mayhemizer & Centuur for their military advice.

Now the line in France looks good! One more fine tune tip that my mentor told me long time ago: Put ARM to clear hex, it gives -2 for odds when Germany attacks. Now it is save from ground strikes, but tanks belongs to open fields

Edit: I don't count myself as a general. More like a captain

Rules of thumb I try to follow (told by my friend):
- Tanks belong to clear
- HQ is never alone if someone can attack against it and prefer 2 units with HQ. (Remember turn end and double impulse).
- If enemy HQ is alone, always attack.
- Italian subs initiates combat, German subs takes damages.

Only 4 rules of thumb, looks like this game is not complex at all.

You are forgetting the most important one: "if you can't have a bad result happening, don't attack". That's the golden rule of this game...

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #2. Japan. Northern China.

With fine weather in the North Temperate and Storms in the North Monsoon the only movement by the Japanese army is in North China. No combat though due to miserably low odds.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #2. Germany. Land Combat.

However, no mix results for German land combat against those same two stacks. The German player rolls very well both times.

I usually let the Italian subs take the damage. It's best for the Germans to?

Italians can take almost any time naval/combined, Germans can't. That's why I always take sub losses to Germany. So that there would be lots of submarines ready to initiate combat next impulse (when Italians take naval/combined).

In my current game Germany was kind of forced to go 1940 Barbarossa, so they chose land actions all winter 1939-1940 to get troops to eastern front. Then summer came and Germany chose land action after land action. I think it was fall 1940 when German submarines first time left Kiel (if not, Germany once rebased submarines from Kiel to Brest). I counted 10 German submarines in ports and started to feel like not building any more them and send those BP's to Italy...

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #3. The Western Front.

The French and British pull back and reform a "straight" line. Also, the French armor corps is moved into the open where tanks should be.

Yes they are but I think you'll see that this will be mitigated some by a major mistake made by the French player. As you shall see he must have been at the wheel.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #4. Japan. Northern China.

Japan just can't get good odds against the communist. It's too early in the turn to make a low odds attack. Japan still has maneuvering left that can boost their odds, which they'll try to do later this turn.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #4. Italy. East Med. Egypt.

Italy takes a naval and use that to move both troops and more ships into the Eastern Med. The troops are headed for the Italian held part of Egypt and the ships to keep supply and possibly gain control of the East Med.

Italians try to initiate naval combat but neither side was able to find the other.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #4. Germany. France. Ground Strike.

Germany takes a land and uses 2 of their 4 air mission to ground strike a French stack that contains the only French armor corps and situated in the hex directly east of Paris. The strike succeeds in disorganizing the armor corps. Note that Georges was already disorganized.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #4. Germany. France. Land Combat.

Germany makes three land combat attacks. One is an assault, which is on Lille and is automatic, and two are Blitz attacks. Germany rolls well for both Blitz attacks, which achieve breakthroughs. It was the first breakthrough against hex [55,30] in which the mind boggling military blunder the French had made was exposed.
