Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Axis #1. IJN. I-boats. Azanian Sea.

Japanese I-boats in the Azanian Sea sink 1 more allied CP and force another 3 to abort. Again, because of storms the allies weren't able to fly planes into the 0-box to "protect" their convoys.

Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Axis #1. IJN. Bismarck Sea.

They do this by first moving two heavy cruisers into the Bismark Sea. The IJN elects not to try to initiate combat and neither does the USN (as the non-phasing player).

Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Axis #1. IJN. The Marianas.

Japan also moves a heavy cruiser into the Marianas which restores supply to Kwajalein. Japan elects to try to initiate combat but fail to find the USN. Probably a good thing for the Japanese that contact wasn't made. And probably a foolish decision for the Japanese Captain of the heavy cruiser Chokai to go looking for the USN.

Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Axis #1. Germany. The Eastern Front, South.

With the German armies in southern Russia in danger of being surrounded, German units pull back back a bit from Stavropol, Stalingrad and Saratov to "straight" and fill the gaps in their lines. This was not called a retreat because a certain corporal has forbidden any retreats on the Russian Front. However, I know for a fact that German military leaders on that front will do what's necessary to save their armies and privately say that certain corporal can go pound sand.

Worth noting is that von Bock can not because reorganized last turn because he requires oil to reorganized and his HQ was cutoff from any source of oil. So von Bock sits there disorganized with no chance to reorganized until the end of the turn.

I'd suggest for your next game to seek an opponent. It will teach you how to play in general, when someone else exploits potential mistakes.
There is only so much you can learn by playing against yourself!

Agreed. It's about time to get trashed by a human opponent, Mr. RKR1958...

I have been reading this AAR for a few weeks now, but I might have missed a post or two. What ever happened to Manstein's HQ? I haven't seen it in any of the newest pictures.

He's leading the southern edge of the claw that's enclosing the Moscow pocket.

Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Allied #3. USSR, Southern Front.

While any land combat in this miserable weather on the Eastern Front is nigh impossible, the Soviet Union does manage in the south to continue to close their trap on an entire out of supply German army near Savrapol. Whether or not they can keep the army trap and finally destroyed is yet to be decided.

Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Allied #3. USN. South China Sea.

Into the South China Sea the USN moves several of their aircraft carriers supported mainly by heavy cruisers. While the storms raging at sea there have grounded all planes, making the carriers ineffective, the USN hopes for better weather and a chance to engage and destroy the IJN fleet operating there.

With this mix of force the USN chooses not to try and engage the IJN, which if successful, would result in a surface naval battle. The IJN, even if in a naval surface battle, would still be outnumbered and outclassed so they, as the non-phasing player, decide to forgo the chance to initiate a naval combat too.

Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Allied #3. USN. Marianas.

The USN tries but fails to initiate a naval (surface) combat in the Marianas.

In trying, the USN broke one of my golden rules of thumb which is never try to initiate a combat with troops at sea. Even when the odds are squarely in one's favor things can go horribly wrong and result in the lost of loaded transports or amphibious units. In this case nothing happened but still maybe I should be stricter sticking to my rule of thumb unless the naval advantage is overwhelming.

Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Allied #3. USN. Bismarck Sea. Naval Surface Battle.

On the tally sheet the naval battle is a draw with both sides having one heavy cruiser damaged and a second one aborted. However, at the strategic level the battle is a win with the USN. The Bismarck Sea is now, again, allied only controlled.
