Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Axis #8. Germany. U-boats. Arctic Ocean.

Germany used their combine to move 6 u-boats units out of Kiel and into three sea areas containing allied convoys. The first area was the Arctic, when the Germans attempted but failed to initiate a combat.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Axis #8. Germany. U-boats. North Atlantic.

But, in the North Atlantic, which contains 15 allied CPs, German u-boats find, surprise and isolate allied convoys in box 0.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Axis #8. Germany. U-boats. North Atlantic. Sub Combat.

German u-boats use all their surprise points to maximize damage against the allied convoys. As a result, through 1 German u-boat units were sunk, 2 damaged and 1 forced to abort, German u-boats manage to sink 7 USA CPs, 1 CW CP and force and second CW CP to abort.

Once again the axis show the allies that through their sub threat has diminished it's still there and still has some teeth.

In looking at how I applied the results as the German player I made a mistake. I should have applied the second aborted result to the second damaged u-boat thus leaving an undamaged u-boat in the North Atlantic. Am I the only one in the "heat of battle" apply results suboptimially?

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Axis #8. End of Turn.

Fortunately for the allies the turn continues, which gives the CW and USA some chance to replace the 8 sunk and 1 aborted CP in the North Atlantic.

Good News, Bad News.

The good news is that I was able to recover from a corruption of my game file (this game file) that caused the file to balloon in size from it's normal 10-MB to over 100-MB. See: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4100249

The bad news is that I played this entire last turn, turn 27, Jan/Feb 1944 was a corrupted game file that finally gave up the ghost during preliminary production. What I mean is that I was unable to continue with my game at the point. See: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4101208

I have a recovered file that is at the start of this turn. This means I've lost all play of this turn. I guess there're several ways to proceed with one being fixing the die rolls and trying to recreate the game state at the end of this turn. Frankly that's just too much pain and effort. So, I've decided to just go back to the beginning of this turn and play it fresh and let the game go from there. I really don't see any other choice.

So, last turn, or is it this turn, didn't happen. It was just a dream.

Being the Soviets, I would consider moving one of the units out of Leningrad (if you've got three there), if the weather is not snow or blizzard. The Germans are in a bad position, because they did not surround the city, which makes them vulnerable in the area. Also: they are out of supply there, and that means you force the Germans into retreating an HQ to remedy the situation...

Back to the future. Or is it the past?

As I mentioned in my post last night this game file was corrupted. After doing some detective work I've concluded that the corruption happened on the night of June 12, Sunday, somewhere between 9:26 PM and 9:36 PM Central Daylight Savings Time.

What this means is that I played this entire last turn with a corrupted game file. While I did notice a slowdown in how fast MWiF ran and did have some crashes I thought I'd played through them. It was only when I got to the end of turn, specifically the preliminary production phase, that the corrupted game file caused an unrecoverable crash. So, I had to go back to the last good game file, which was Soviet Production from 6/17/2016, 9:26 PM and pick up our game from there. This means that all of last turn was a phantom. I will now pick my game and this AAR up from the start of turn 27 (Jan/Feb 1944) and play from there. This turn will be played as a do over. That is, I will NOT set any die rolls in order to try to "repeat" from the point of the game file corruption, which includes all of last turn.
