I'd like to add some support units (engineers) to my fortified units, i see that two army HQs has these engineer support units, but i can't transfer these SU from my army HQs. I just can transfert it to the Stavka, or other armies or army corps. It's impossible to transfer it to the fortified units. Notice that these army Hqs are in the range of my fortified units, some hex only.

I imagine that it's wad ?

I think you can manually attach support units only some types of combat units, not all types. And a support unit in a combat unit must also pass a commitment check before it can participate into a combat. You can find more accurate information from the updated game manual (7.5.2).

Transfers to forts can be done at the fort. Use the Form/Transfer button (which is a bit mislabeled since forts cannot form SU's).

Boudi, try clicking your Fortified Region and then ASSING button, there should be Sapper Battalions available. Sappers are kind of combat engineers.

you should be able to create whichever kind of SU you want in the parent unit of the Fort. Then next turn, assign it to the Fort.

Glad I can offer help, I'm always asking for help

I enjoy micromanaging the SUs, but whether it makes a difference in the war I have no idea :-)

@uw06670:

Managing support units does matter. Test by attacking/defending w/o any and with, say, a few of each type. In the closer matches its decisive. Overloading HQ w/SUs doesn't help that much in case of one iteration.

BTW, welcome several to forum. Questions/answers are always illuminating.

Thanks for the feedback rrbill. what I meant was that I'm not sure if trying to pick the 'right' SU matters so much as having one or not (as you suggest, having none is less good than having some).

For example, I'm in very early war, I'm trying to create SUs that have a low manpower footprint (not a lot of support squads needed) like AA, Mortars, Sappers. My theory is that they will fill in more quickly and make a difference in defending a hex within a turn versus a large artillery unit that maybe won't be ready for a few. My first assumption appears to be correct, but I haven't tried a larger SU to see if it really does take longer to get ready or not. perhaps next turn I'll try that :-)
