I have tested the mod with military ships restricted to class 1 heavy cruisers, escorts and frigates.

Two Romulan Birds of Prey..... one of these was not seen on screen and I am using this design to show another Bird of Prey class that was issued after the Balance of Terror episode. The Romulans were not seen for some time after their first appearance in TOS and I am filling in some of what they would have done in that time period....especially in Distant Worlds if they go to war with another race.

The Kzinti.....an alien race of feline creatures who are a warrior culture with stolen starship technology and are raising hell all over the quadrant.

The picture shows the Kzinti from the Animated series and below is an early concept of what their ships may look like.

I was not too happy how these guys appeared in Star Trek over the years so I have given them a 2017 makeover just for this mod.

Their world is a bit dark and gloomy and their spaceships are not much better.

Yes it is the Gorn.

I know that the Gorn was given a new look in the Enterprise series but the problem is that they somehow changed appearance between Archer and Kirk eras.

With this mod events that happened in the Archer era have changed and the Gorn appearance has changed slightly but hopefully you agree is a lot closer to how they appeared on TOS episodes.

The eyes are different in this picture as the Gorn live in dark environments. On the TOS episode the Gorn was on a planet in bright sunshine and the silver eyes were there to protect the Gorn's eyes from bright sunlight.

An update on this.

In the mod the characters and races will not be referred to as being from the Mirror Universe as this term was not actually used in Star Trek except for example in the Star Trek encyclopedia.

I am working on how exactly to have characters and Empires introduced in the Mirror Mirror episode added to the mod and will it be role play or as part of Distant World's itself. Would you guys like them as a playable Empire?

My understanding is that not all characters were opposites of the TOS characters but events and Empires in existence were significantly different.

The episode occoured after a transporter malfunction during an ion storm and this is something that can not be used in this mod to explain what I have planned.

I am looking at the 2009 movie as an example where the Leonard Nimoy Spock ended up in the alternate timeline and if not for Nemo would he have been able to return to the Prime Timeline.

I may not even explain where for example the Terrain Empire and others come from and handle it in the same way as the episode where the Enterprise discovers a duplicate Earth.

Your portrait definitely works, but if I'm going to be picky, it looks more like a redesign one would see from the Kelvin Timeline. Modding is very time consuming however, and keeping that in mind it's not worth griping about the appearance of a single races portrait.

Playing a empire centric game in the mirror universe could be quite fun and could get pretty humorous too (if you want an example search for "Return of the Sisk0" on YouTube). But I would shelve it until you've finished up with prime universe modding first.

As for how to handle alternate universe content in the rpg, I like your idea about having some of the stuff unexplained. It keeps it simple for the mod and allows for better role play.

I have seen many different looks for the Gorn (at least 5) and the Gorn that was in Star Trek 2009 before it was cut out of the final film looked no way like the Gorn at all.

The picture appears like this due to the following information about the Gorn's homeworld known as Gornar.


The Gorn built many cities near great swamps. These cities were equally built above and below ground and cover much of the planet. Many connections between cities are found underground. Forty-Five percent of the land is actually usable. The rest is covered by swamps and oceans.

Back in 1966 this race was the scariest thing 90% of people had ever seen.

The Space Vampire coming to this mod as a playable species.
A work in progress and a preview coming shortly.....

Looks a bit dark (needs a little more fill lighting ), but I prefer the tos look my myself over the other canon variations.

I'm not much of a artist, more of a photoshop surgeon, but I'd personally like to a see a canon redesign that has a more structurally reptillian/avian look to it (just voicing my opinion on the Gorn in general, not asking anything). I still can't post links or images, but if you search for "Dinosauroid by Monopteryx" on Google and click the first link that's a good idea of what I'm talking about. Taking the skeletal and muscular structure of that creature and overlaying on top of it the tos look of the Gorn would be pretty neat.

When you discover new worlds you will meet the races, characters and new civilizations found on those worlds.

To do this I use every episode of TOS, the animated series, TNG and DS9.

But not only do I use the episodes but I also refer to every Star Trek book written as novels.

I have every comic published for Star Trek but possibly will not refer to stories in the comics as the novels and episodes should cover all planets you will discover in the mod.

280 playable races...

There are so many interesting races in the Star Trek universe and I have decided not to limit playable races to 40 but have designed a way to have 280 playable races.

Over the next couple of days I will be finalizing exactly which races will be in that list of 280 playable races and once finalized I will list them here.

I will also explain how this mod will have 280 playable races and how these are determined with 31 variations determining which races appear.

Vulcans, Klingons, Romulans and the Federation will be present no matter which variation is used.

With the 280 races mentioned in the last post there is a limit of 40 races when you play however with the different combinations of TOS races available I am looking at 280 races you can choose before starting Distant Worlds Universe.

When gameplay begins Earth and the Vulcans have not met and the events of First Contact did not occour.

As a result Spock is not on the Enterprise and depending on circumstances and whether or not Earth and the Vulcans get on, it is possible that Spock and the crew of the enterprise are on separate sides of a battle.

If Earth and the Vulcans ally early then Spock will join the Enterprise ...... then gameplay decides what happens next if Earth and Vulcan go to war and Spock is on the Enterprise.

I have photo-shopped the following for the storyline where Spock is on Vulcan and not a member of the Enterprise. This is the default image used at the start of the game for Spock and the Vulcan race.

This mod will go through at times the hypothetical of what would have happened if Spock never joined the Enterprise and remained on Vulcan. Other times he is a member of the Enterprise crew and gameplay is a lot different.





The following has been photoshopped to show Spock on the Planet Vulcan in his role as a Vulcan scientist.

There are some issues with the picture but they disappear when the picture is resized to appear in Distant Worlds.

I ran a test of the mod yesterday with the following races in the game.

- Federation
- Klingons
- Romulans
- Vulcans
- Khan Noonien Singh

These are the big 5 that will be in every game as essential and required races.


The optional races that were in the test were:

- Andorians
- Gorn
- Kzinti
- Orions
- Tholian



This was the first time I had the Andorians and Vulcans in the game as races that were opposed to the Federation and Khan made an early appearance in a nearby system.

As far as I am aware my mod will be the first time that you will see the Federation, Andorians and Vulcans in individual combat with each other or the Klingons, Romulans and Khan.

Tonight I am adding additional races to the testing such as Charlie Evans leading the Thasians, Deltans, Ferengi, Breen, Nausicaan and the Talosians.



I thought I might mention that in one of the UI Screens I have revamped the Borg are mentioned.

In today's testing of the mod, The Enterprise was exploring a distant star system looking for much needed resources and a message window popped up telling me that Gary Mitchell was available as a crewman and was waiting on Earth.

With Gary Mitchel being the helmsman prior to Sulu taking on that position, the question I have to ask myself is do I bring the Enterprise all the way back to Earth and interrupt its mission to pick up Gary or do I get another ship to transport Gary Mitchell out to the Enterprise.

Each character that will be on the enterprise is in a newly created category in Distant Worlds called Crewmen.

The advantages of spys in the mod.

During gameplay the Federation may send a spy into Romulan or Klingon space to determine enemy ship movement and strength. This is limited on when it can be done and is normally done when you are concerned about a race that could go to war against you.

In the next few days I will be adding the following scenario where you will at times receive communication from the spy giving details of Enemy positions in the Quadrant and their weapons strength.

What will happen is that you will have exactly one minute to go into the system editor and quickly look at Klingon or Romulan space, depending on where your spy is, and have a quick view of their ship numbers and weapons. At the end of the minute you exit out of the Editor.

This simulates gathering of intelligence on the Romulans or Klingons or other races you are having bad relationships with.

In the mod test today, a Federation spy gave me updated information on the Klingons. I went into the editor and in the minute I had I found out that the Klingons have twice as many ships than the Federation has and the Klingons according to the Diplomatic Screen were very annoyed with the Federation.

By gathering intel on their ships, I was able to make some strategic decisions to make sure that the Federation was not annihilated by Klingon attacks.

By adding this to the mod, it may change the entire dynamic of the mod if you think everything is going well and you then discover Klingon D7 battlecruisers are massing near your borders.

An out of control Charlie Evans wrecks havoc in the galaxy.

I have added an interesting story of Charlie using his powers to lead the Thasiuns and battle other races in neighbouring systems.

Below is my view of what Charlie's home planet looks like.

The Thasiuns can be seen in the picture and appear in a form similar to fog. Charlie told us that you can't even touch them.

The Galileo was attacked by a species known as Taureans on their planet Beta Tauri II.

Seen in the episode their stage of evolution was stone age.

These Taureans will be a playable race with advanced technology. Taureans have warp drive in this alternate timeline as another species introduced them to technology years ahead of their time...

Taureans are a hostile race and should not be treated lightly if you meet them.

An update on mod stats

- There are 1160 systems
- Each system can have up to 10 planets

- 524 different races of known species
- 636 unidentified races

Many races were never seen but are included in the mod.

As any of these can form an EmpirevI am busy creating pictures of new alien species never seen before.

Testing of the mod continues and some new ideas for the mod are being looked at.

When the Enterprise is built it may be captained by Robert April who us then replaced when Christopher Pike arrives.Pike will then be replaced as Captain when Kirk arrives.

This will keep the mod a little closer to canon Star Trek.
