Greetings all,

Playing yet another WITP:AE game, this time with the latest patch. I had three ships hit with mystery bomb hits, it is January 1942, two I thought might have been from carrier search planes but never did see the carriers. The last one was the strangest, a PG off of Chittagong. All ships were hit by 550 pound bombs and I had no announcement or combat scene of them under attack. I understand it is possible not to see the actual attack but the last one puzzles me the most as there were no Japanese forces near by. Thanks in advance!

Sunk by ???

Its possible for an earlier hit to cause a ship to sink well away from the point of combat.

Check the ops reports. You may see a hit by report on these ships from search planes.

You do mean hit by Japanese 250kg bombs, right?

Always helps to throw some pics so someone can see reports/info screens.

This is almost surely a War Room thread, not a Tech Support problem.

When search planes do their mission they usually carry a reduced bomb load but they ARE armed. If they see something worthwhile during the search and are able to approach it they will try to bomb, and on rare occasions this is even successful (but much less often than the pilots' claims of hits)!

There is no combat report generated by search plane attacks. You might see text of the attack scroll by in the little window at the lower left side of the screen during the turn execution. As Obvert mentioned, the attack and, if applicable, the hit would be listed in the operations report, buried amid all the other gibberish about recons and pilots making ace.

Note that Betties and Nells have huge operational ranges when carrying the reduced load of bombs. I think one model can go out to 26 hexes, but January/42 is too early for it to be appearing.

Yeah, happens all the time. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they are not nearby. I had Warspite torpedoed and didn't know about it until the ship showed up at a port. Fog of war can be a fickle B***H....GP

ScottyB62, as BBfanboy said, the info is only displayed in the little window at the lower left side of the screen. If you hit "Esc" key to speed up the messages, it is very easy to miss the message about enemy search aircraft hitting your ships.

It's also in the ops report.
