It could be a PT-22 which was a monoplane primary trainer with fabric covered wings.

Most of the painting was done with a paint gun, but there was always need for touch up work. The photos could also be posed too.

She worked at Assembly and Repair. A can of paint that small was for touchups. Looks like the ridges still needed painting.

The painter was posed not the painting. It was Miss Grace Weaver that was doing the actually touch up when the photographers arrived, she was then replace by the shop owners' wife Mrs. Irma Lee McElroy.

The dribble pattern on the paint cans are identical yet there is some new dribble at the gray seam on Irma's can.

It was Irma's pic that became published at the time.
