One was given to Japan to try out for their own designs. I am not sure if it was actually shipped to Japan or if the Japanese rode a sub to Germany. The latter seems more likely.

EDIT: PS - that is a Tiger I, with the boxy shape and flat surfaces. The King Tiger (II) is much more rounded.

Sub ride. The other pics i found shows them standing next to a Panther tank at a German factory. The Japanese government bought 1 Tiger and 1 Panther. Due to shipping, the tanks were then loaned to the German people. The article stated the two tanks were last while fighting the Russians, no mention of the unit that was using them.

Phony baloney - no elephant is going to calmly tolerate the noise from an MG muzzle a few inches from those big ears. I doubt the recoil kick on the lower back would make it happy either.
