Finally looking about right .
The division was essentially surrounded because it surrounded the mobile units to its east.

I was getting similar huge captured numbers for surrounded or nearly surrounded Soviet divisions on turn 1 using 1.08.09, didn't remember ever seeing losses that big before.

I would have expected to see higher losses on artillery at least (and vehicles depending on fuel situation).

When your unit routs, I don't think the men are particularly keen on dragging heavy equipment with them.

90 out of 153 is not trivial!

Well, Soviet retreat losses in early 1941 are a special case, that wasn't affected much by changes to general retreat losses changes, so I wouldn't expect great differences here. But they can, thanks to lower NM.

There is, of course, this other aspect of the rout logic that continues to drive me crazy.
Why not rout to the red circle?

There are so many variables in this game, no repeated attacks ever have the same results, it could be a one off aberration?

FWIW, comparing first turn Axis AI v08 against v09, the Soviet losses were lower in v09 with disabled being down by approx 40,000. Destroyed Units and Aircraft were close to identical.

I had to revert changes to routs and retreats of isolated units as there were big problems. I don't think there will be improvements for this in WitE1.

I cannot remember - is there any change to the rout logic in WITW/WITE2?
How about the zero combat poser in support units.
