Dropping a question here about less agressive/peaceful actions.

CMANO certainly offers a great war-simulation playground, no doubt about it (I love it, of course!)
But, is it possible in some way (lua?) to fence off/deny enemies/unfriendlies (or any unit for that sake) from entering/continue to an area if you display greater force in situ - without fireing at them? (saying: "go home, this is my territory and you are way out of line!").

Normaly, these are not-at-war-actions, but actions of testing/probing borders and capabilities, intelligence gathering etc. I thought it would be interesting if CMANO could also simulate this in a way (or?). With all the clever people out there in our community (and the excellent scenario editor), I thought that perhaps someone could enlighten me if this is possible to simulate in CMANO today?

great question.. I have wondered this myself.. sending a swarm of Super Hornets against those wonderfully agile Mig-23's to say.. GO HOME or DIE

I know it introduces AI-behaviour dilemmas, such as if the unit being "denied" has/has not backup lurking the waters/airspace nearby etc. How to decide when to back off etc. But with the brilliant dev team, anything is possible, right?

It's such a great platform and these kinds of actions occur (on a regular basis) today and with CMANO at hand, wouldn't it be great to build and test such games? I did not see this feature request in the latest poll, so perhaps I'm just too passive of a person not wanting to fire directly on my foes

I take that as a "yes, of course it's possible"!
I'll dig into lua (summer holidays ruined - or saved!)

Great. Now that's called gumption.

A few approaches off the cuff;

1.
Set up a counter either with Lua or a 'dummy' side score to add increments on 'detected by' triggers (e.g. +1 for each unit, or if you want more control vary the increments and detection levels like +1 for FFG, +5 for DDG, etc)
Once the counter reaches a threshold you can either give the player a message, change the AI side's mission, etc.

2.
The 'unfriendly' posture is very useful for simulating intercepts, shadowing etc.
You could set up a 'unit enters area' trigger with reference points relative to a unit
When the relative intercepting/shadowing enters the area (or remains for a certain time), trigger a mission change/message/posture change

There's likely many more ways to do this. The event editor is fairly self explanatory, and Lua is quick and easy to learn (I knew nothing of it 12 months ago and have made use of a variety of scripts in my scenarios).

A good starting point for Lua is the tutorial included with the Lua binaries - http://lua-users.org/wiki/LuaBinaries

The Command QA site is also a great resource for follow-on questions - http://qa.commandmodernairnavaloperations.com/
