MA40. End of Turn. Nazi-Soviet Pact.

The Soviets (will) add another chit to their defensive pool.

What do the Germans want to do with the two chits they get this turn?

Two fine weather impulses in the first 4 turns for the axis (and one was given them at the start). Weather has certainly not been my friend. It has saved France and it saved Kunming.

The Germans place both chits in the offensive pool. Plans are changing?

All subs return to base, Kiel and La Spezia.

Does this mean the Italian NAV off the Italian Coast moves down to the 3-box and stays at sea?

O.K. with a minor adjustment. I returned the German NAV first to La Spezia so there wasn't space for the Italian. So I returned him to Leghorn.

Brutal turn for the Italian navy. The pride of the nation sunk in it's first action at sea...

MA40. End of Turn. US Entry Options.

I forgot to make this post last night. The US chooses to a fourth chit to the Japan Entry pool. They then select option 13, "Embargo on strategic materials" which causes a chit to be moved from the Japanese entry to tension pool.

MA40. End of Turn. Use Oil. CW.

A bit tricky because some units couldn't be reached by all oil points. But, worked out how I wanted to use oil.

MA40. End of Turn. Use Oil. France (1 of 2).

Really tricky because the French battleships Jean Bart and Bretagne couldn't use the oil point in Beirut to reogranize. In the second screen cap I I had reogranized those two battleships then 0.2 oil wouldn't have been taken from Bayonne. Not a problem it seems, however, I could only continue by hitting the Expend Oil button and, even if I had the Beirut oil point highlighted it would finish expending the 0.8 left of the Bayonne point.

MA40. End of Turn. Use Oil. France (2 of 2).

So after a few trail and error attempts I found the way to get things to work out how I wanted them was to first expend the Beirut oil point and then reogranize the two battleships in Brest.

MA40. End of Turn. Use Oil. USA & USSR.

USA required less than a 0.5 oil point so no oil was expended for reorganization. The USSR had no units that required oil to reorganize.

Allied Instructions for Pat:

(1) After the axis place unit phase it's trade and then initiative.

(2) For trade, increase the number of oil sent by the USA to the CW by 1 oil (i.e., 4 oil per turn). No other changes to allied trade.

(3) For initiative, the allies in the unlikely event that they win the initiative will elect to move first.

Lending, allies per instructions (US upped oil to CW to 4). Germany increased resources to Italy to 2 (one oil).

Initiative rolls, axis =5, allies =7. Due to +2 and winning ties the axis win and elect to go first.

And as dreaded, the one fine impulse that the allies got to experience in MA40 ruined the + modifiers and the first impulse of MJ is rain in the N. Temp. And there is still a 10% chance that the next axis impulse will also not be fine.

It's nice to see someone else roll weather like I roll weather. Not only does Germany have to deal with rain the first impulse; what is worse is that a pair of impulses silently vanish with this result (Impulse Advance 2).

This game and the four-player AAR make an interesting contrast in what luck can do to the initial Axis attack. In the four-player AAR, the Axis started out with near perfect luck; here the weather has been about as bad as it can be.

This is my major complaint about WiF: the dice can just take over the game.

All axis powers take combined actions.

After the naval moves the image below shows possible combats. The axis will initiate in the 3 noted. Think about your reactions to the CSV and W. Med. I'll run the N. Atlantic first, since no reactions are possible there.

Use surprise points to avoid combat.
