SO42 i3 ending situation in Easter Siberia. I see a long drawn out battle for Vladivostok in my future. May the Americans continue to be mesmerized by North Africa.

The commanding general was gracious enough to save Stalin the paperwork.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #5. Allied Ground Strikes.

The USN and RN are attempting 4 ground strikes. The axis have two fighter units and one AA division that can opposed these are strikes. The RN has 3 carrier units on standby that can counter-intercept.

Do the axis wish to opposed these ground strikes? If so, how?

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #5. Ground Strikes 3 & 4.

Well, those four ground strikes were a total waste of aviation fuel. It's a miracle that the air crews managed to find their way back to their carriers. Much less land on them.

Speaking of landing, it's dinner time here ... so I'll be away for a while ...

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #5. Anglo-American Amphibious Invasions. Questions for the Axis.

Anglo-American forces are attempting two amphibious invasions as shown in this screen cap.

1. Do the axis want to include the nationals for both attacks?

The estimated odds after the allies have applied the maximum shore bombardment and HQ support are shown. Also shown are the axis air units that can provide defensive ground support and escort. The allies have no planes in position that can provide offensive ground support, however they are three RN air units that can intercept if necessary.

2. How and where do the axis wish to allocate their planes for defensive ground support?

I think I have to declare the notional before the land ground support is resolved. If that is the case I will take the notional in both combats. If I can wait till after the ground support aircraft, then the Lisbon notional will not be accepted if the ground support gets through.

Ground support. The Ju 87D (6 pt GS) and the Italian FIG, flying as a bomber in the lead position, fly over Lisbon. The Ju87R (4 pt GS) and He 111H fly to the southern attack to support the notional troops. The He 111H takes the lead.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #2. Amphibious Invasion, Lisbon. Pre-attack Land Combat Analysis.

In order to build up a little suspense, or actually delay the inevitable, this cap shows the estimated pre-attack odds (bottom panel) for the amphibious landing attempt against Lisbon. The top panel shows the result of the air to air combat for ground support. It didn't go well for the allies. Hopefully the land combat will.

By the way, one must declare notionals before shore bombardment and ground support, which is the reason that the Lisbon notional is included in the defense.

More suspense ... really more procrastination in delaying the inevitable. Or, I like to think of it as a practical application of Schrödinger's cat. I've both won and loss until I actually make the die rolls, with my focus on the "won part".

By the way, the air to air combat for ground support again went poorly for the allies.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #5. Amphibious Invasion, Lisbon.

The landing's a success. Costly, but still a success.

A German u-boat and two battleships were overrun. I moved the u-boat to Gibraltar. I moved the two battleships through the Bay of Biscay to Bordeaux. These two fleeing battleships were subject to intercept by the allies, however, the threat was much weaker in the Bay of Biscay, so weak in fact that I declined to intercept.

OK, now we see whether Alexander stands a with his HQ unit on the continent or if the second landing is able to establish a beachhead.

Success! Now that the EASY part is over, comes the hard part, which is to survive and maintain a presence on the Continent.

Have I mentioned that I need a very good weather roll, one that produces bad weather in the East.

Now for the all important weather roll.

SO42 i7:
{I altered the rebase destination of the GE pocket battleships to St. Nazaire using Ronnie's editing guide}
Germany and Japan take land actions. Italy takes a Naval.
Italy moves two subs from Brest to the Norwegian Sea.
Search rolls of 3/9 insure enough surprise to overkill both CPs.

The Italians are also initiating combat in CSV. No new axis aircraft react out to the zone. I assume that again the available CW NAVs will not react out. How about the American fighter in Portugal?

The US fighter in Portugal will NOT react. It's designated for another high priority mission.

CSV search rolls of 9/7 result in no contact.

Finally, E Med. Italians go looking for the last CW fighter at sea.
First round rolls of 4/2 result in the BB finding the fighter and no result being the result
Send round rolls of 8/9 end the searches.

SO42 i7 Land Attacks. Four attacks 3 by the Germans and 1 by the Japanese.
The Russians can fly one bomber. It can reach two of the attacks (red arrows). The Germans could counter with fighter (blue arrows). Will the bomber fly and if yes to where?

Bomber will fly to support the southern attack (19.5:4). If it survives, rebase it as far east as possible in a city or woods.

SO42 i7 Land Attacks.
The air battle over Voronezh went well for the allies when their bomber was cleared through. Axis took the city but paid a price in units lost and disorganized.

The other two attacks went well for the axis. Forgot to image Tula, a 14 or 15 was rolled resulting in a net >23. The southern attack on Krasnodar is shown below.
