Playing germans great campaign PBEM 1.08.08; we've arrived to february '42 and german economy looks in a very good shape with stockpiles always increasing: fuel, oil, supplies, resources don't have any problem.
I wonder if Germany will face any shortage in future and it's useful to monitor the situation or economy in game is just a gadget (a very nice one indeed, I love looking at it) ?

I think there are really no shortages in German economy as it would wreak havoc with other game systems (production, resupply).

I read in the manual that the synthetic fuel and oil production will be cut in 1943 and 1944 to reflect the strategic bombing of ploesty and synthetic fuel plants.
I wonder if even in '44 Germany will not have any problem with fuel shortage as it really experienced in ww2.
In game it seems that almost nobody goes for Caucasus oil, cause is useless or even harmful for German player to try case Blue. IMHO it would be nice to give a real reason to German player to try to go for oil.
I read that fuel stocks were lowering after Barbarossa started and that Germany was in great difficulty in '44 because of fuel shortage.http://www.airpower.maxwell.af.mil/airchronicles/aureview/1981/jul-aug/becker.htm

Yes, but there is a risk of crippling entire German war machine with fuel shortages as there is no way to prioritize certain units (apart from manual drops and to an extend HQ build up), due to how the supply system works. So no one wanted to take that risk. You could experiment for yourself with a custom scenario (reduce fuel and oil reserves, reduce size of oil and fuel factories across Axis countries) and report your findings.
