Hi all, still loving this game so I have decided to embark on another adventure after a couple of fantastic games against Mike (wargmr) a wonderful opponent.

Opponent: Jeff looks like a very formidable player and I know Lowpe speaks very highly of him.

Game: DBB Scenario 2 with stacking Limits, PDU-Off

HRs: very little, no restricted units moving without paying pps, altitude limits over the 3 years(initially 21K in 41/42, limited night bombing of airfields.

Concept of Ops: The title does give it away somewhat but my key objectives for the first 6 months will be:

1. The accumulation of victory points to ensure I get to 45.

2. The seizure of oil and industry to sustain a ferocious land war.

3. Establishment of a strong perimeter to delay the bombing of the home land

4. The crippling of Commonwealth forces (drain their pools)

Post June 42 the focus will shift to the hated Soviets depending on progress in China.

Updates: Still time poor so updates will be somewhat sporadic.

Historical turn 1- A far better outcome than I usually get.

Happy with the Pearl Attack

Critically the two ships I fear the most as troop convoy killers don't escape punishment. I often find in the historical first turn they escape unscathed.

Fairly certain Repulse is gone and PoW badly hurt. My timetable can accelerate with these two threats neutralised.

Finally I love my subs and fully intend to cause havoc with them.

Got lucky here again on the first turn.

China- always sets the tone of the war and I something I try to get right early.

I have found this tactic has worked well over the last 5 games and there is little defence from a Chinese perspective to stop it.

The two prong offensive aimed at Sian has always worked in the past and hopefully if Jeff is slow to react, will bag me alot of Chinese

With your results at Pearl, I would stay for day 2 to see how many of them you can actually sink.

I'm looking forward to the matchup. It's going to be a fun PBEM to follow. Good luck to you both.

I will be following this as well. Seems interesting I really like your key objectives for the first 6 months!

I too would probably try for a day 2 attack at pearl harbour. A risky gambit, but many of those old BBs could go under, damaged as they already are! Just my opinion of course (and I'm not an expert player).

I am not reading Tiemanj's AAR, other than a quick good luck early on....

But harsh experience has taught me to be careful at Pearl. If you stay, since the BBs aren't going anywhere, sweep the air field to trash his fighters on day 2 and on day 3 then bomb the port.

Of course it has probably already happened.

Your starting pilots are precious.

Force Z...a lot of Japanese players expend the supply buying torpedoes and drain the base where the Nells are so that they don't fly. Need to be careful there...'

You are off to a good start, enjoy and remember the late war planes!

I think you will have another aggressive Allied player. Use that to your advantage.

Appreciate the kind words and support Mike.

I daresay if Jeff is even as half as aggressive as you, I will have my hands full

Thanks everyone some good comments here and glad to see a few people interested.

Jeff is working through the turn now and I expect to have by the end of the week.

The unusually high damage inflicted on his BBs does tempt me to hang around for another day or two though my air losses were not light. DBB really hurts with flak and especially on strafing fighters. I lost 18 x A6M2s on day 1

I used to never want to risk my starting pilots at PH with a 2nd day. Now, I'm less resistant. The pilots can be replaced. Yes, it takes time, in the case of the TB pilots it takes months, but they can be replaced. Getting 5 or 6 BB's out of the war ... I'd go for it.

You are probably right Pax and by God I do hate BBs. They hurt me more in late games in many ways than CVs. No real protection from shore bombardments.

I suspect his surface fleet will come out hard next turn so I will have to be a little careful if I hang around. Mike caught me flatfooted in one of our games by doing exactly that and it almost cost me a CV.

Still to get rid of a couple more BBs would be very tempting....

First: good luck and have fun!

Second: how many enemy fighters have been destroyed at PH? Then I think you can choose for a second run or not.

18 x A6M2s lost hurts, personally I never use carrier's fighters on strafing.

In one of my PBEM games i was the Allied player and my opponent stuck around for a 2nd day of PH attacks. The problem was day 1 left several CAs/CLs undamaged and 4 BBs lightly damaged. I sortied 4 surface TFs with 1 BB each and 2-3 cruisers, 3 out of 4 caught him and he lost two CVs sunk and two more damaged for a loss of 2 BBs and 3 CA/CLs. The 2nd day air attack got chewed up as only 3 of his 6 CVs could conduct flight ops and he did no additional damage to PH or the ship stationed there as most of his attacks were going after the surface TFs that had attacked him during the night. That game ended before the end of 1942, in large part to the damage he suffered staying around for a 2nd day strike at PH.

I guess a Japanese night attack on Pearl Harbor on KB's way out to Japan would have been more effective.

Welcome aboard Alessandro, unfortunately no can do with an historical start, they will strafe on turn 1.

CHecking again I lost 20 x A6M2s on day 1. DBB flak is deadly.

Yep good and aggressive Allied players will surge out of port and try to catch KB which can horrific consequences for the Empire.

Day 2

Well not a bad start right across the board. The worst part of day 2 was a clever B-17D strike against a port which cost Jeff a number of planes but did damage about 8 ships.

I chicken out on the second day of strikes against Pearl not that I was squeamish on aircraft or pilot losses (I just lost 60K of aircraft in my game against Mike) but I am risk adverse with KB.

Jeff as expected did surge out of Pearl with everything and I suspect if I had stayed I would bump into one of his SAGs. Instead I managed to dodge him and sent a couple of DDs to the bottom.

So far 2 US BBs and Repulse have been sent to the bottom which I am pretty happy about. PoW can't be too far away either and badly hurt near Singapore.

Repulse biting the bullet.

Russia- mobilising now and moving to my jump off positions.

Have to settle the Chinese police action first and smash the Commonwealth forces, so still about 5 months off before I pull the trigger. That will give me time to also have aircraft production pumping to overwhelm the Reds.

Singapore- with PoW and Repulse now out of the way I am accelerating all fleet movements to the South.

I'm prepared to take losses here but I want to absolutely steam roll the Brits and the Dutch. Once I seize a couple of the critical airfields and cut off Singapore the campaign will largely be over before it begins- well that's the plan.

And the mass of shipping assembling and pairing up with their escorts.

Roughly the equivalent of 3 + divisions and all of their support elements heading off to the unknown.

At least I think I know where they are going and hopefully it will be a nice surprise for Jeff when they reach their destination.

Similar to my jumpoff point as well ... target is 1 may 42 ... for similar reasons. i need enough modern aircraft and i need enough lb ground and fighter pilots trained ... both of those lines cross near 1 may for me ...

I'm way behind you though and I'm playing an Ironman Nasty Nasty mod. I haven't been able to run a turn in 2 months and likely be another month before I do.
