I'll be starting a PBEM and I expect some heavy artillery use.

I remember someone mentioning pinning your troops as a method to reducing indirect fire damage. And they used a specific key. I checked the manual and saw nothing on the keychart

Anyone know?

When' defending 'against an arty barrage or any fire, you can lessen the disruption to your troops by telling them to be in the defend posture prior to the fire preferably. If you go to the unit info[advance/defend] or hq menu[button], click on the appropriate button/writing, to change the posture.Of course, terrain is a big factor in deciding where to defend, the more stationary the more defensve bonus you acquire.with c&c on then orders become a priorty too- beware!,well thats what i know works for me.regards mother:cool:

Follow-up q: Does stance really matter if you play with C&C OFF?

Since you're unlikely to use C&C in PBEM, ZoomBoy, the most direct approach is simply to not rally your troops after the first strike, if you expect more incoming artillery. I.e., rally them to a manageable level so they won't break or run away, but still stay in a prone position. Suppression around 10-15 will protect your lads. Beware (heh!), they won't return fire either so this is a BAD idea if you have enemies in sight.

Then again, if you play France or UK, this won't be a problem since your suppression will immediately race to 60-70 something never to decrease. :D

I'm fairly certain "stance" doesn't matter unless you are playing with C&C On.

To answer your initial question, you just "z" fire on the hex your troops are in. This will cause them suppression and the occassional kill too (i.e. Friendly fire casualties). This is not a very kosher tactic and if I saw you doing that in a PBEM against me, I would not be thrilled with this gamey tactic.

I too, remember something about stance not being relevant unless C & C is on, but I don't remember where I saw it.

I think it was in a similar thread here in the Training Center forum. :) The original question there was basically what impact the unit stance had on gameplay if C&C was OFF, if memory serves me right. :p

That said, I have never seen any difference in defend/advance stance in C&C OFF PBEMs... they die just as easily. Although - if you set them to defend in deployment, they seem to entrench faster than otherwise.
