Those USA counters are awesome - It all reminds me of the type of counters you would see in Panzer Leader or Panzer Blitz from Avalon Hill!

Excellent work SIPRES!
I'm really looking forward to trying this counter set once you are done.

I'm working on my own Hybrid counter mod and can appreciate how much work this involves.

Can I ask you how you are creating the vehicle silhouettes?
Mine loose much definition when reducing them to fit, especially around the edges. After consulting the Matrix community, I've been teaching myself Paint.net but even with boltbaits addons, this crucial step remains the most challenging.

I've been trying several techniques and have been getting the best results by saving a slightly larger image with a transparent background onto the counter background colour and then converting them to PDFs. Then I further reduce the size to fit. I find that this creates a pleasing feathered effect. The PDFs seem to manage this the best.

Can your share your technique?

Thanks,

Angus

I like the icons with the NATO symbols, but I'm wondering what an isometric figure perspective would look like?

Instead of a black silhouette, you could then enter some depth and color into the figurines with the small NATO symbols to cement the combat unit type.

Size determined by the Xs on top, a numbers column denotes the tech level on the side and the opposide side the unit designation/name entered by the owning player.

Hello Angus,

For the silhouette I use a Vectorize Software (freeware INKSCAPE).
Its quite powerfull software wich allows many things (I am still learning)
What I usually do is to grab a decent image on Internet of what I need (Eg side view of Russian T34).
I do import to inkscape and use a bitmap vectorize function (this will convert the image in nodes)
Then I turn the colors to black and got the silhouette.
I resize to fit in SC3 counters
I do finally export to PNG format and thats it

The advantage of vector graphics is there is no resolution loss after resize.
As long as original picture has a sufficient size.

Here is in great lines on the following screenshot

Maybe next MOD?

I just wonder about colors wich may leads to some blending problem with the counter color, need a try.
For the tech level and experience I try to leave enough space on my counters design to allow correct display of the ones used in the game (white dots for EXP and numbers for TECH)
For custom unit name display it had to be managed by the game program, nothing we can do on the graphic files

Hi Christophe,

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.

To borrow a line from Seinfeld, "I've been rubbing two sticks together and you've been using a lighter!"
I will be trying Inkscape ASAP.

This should help me get by Mod much sooner and with better graphics.
I hope to post something soon.

Much appreciated and the French units below are looking great too.

Cheers,

Angus

Those look amazing!

One question, are upgrades just like the current game (little numbers underneath counters)?

Yes, upgrades are managed by current game (small numbers wich are sometimes hard to read)
I may do some changes for this but in later revision of the MOD.

I had almost complete POLAND, and start AXIS and Allied minors.
I think if I get enough time that MOD will be available for download by next week.

Absolutely! I'm using that now and it works with the default units but will be perfect with these.

Thank you SIPRES for your very creative efforts - I will be doing the same as Gordianknot and installing these counters along with Welk's boardgame mod. I don't care for the 3D counters, but straight NATO counters are a little too dry for me. This is a perfect mid point - plus you have chosen historically accurate icons for the counters as well.

If this forum had an option for up voting, you would be awash with them.

I love the round counters but would want to keep the default NATO for land units. Sadly can't pick and choose that way.

Or maybe Canada ? I just played a game where the UK surrendered, and because Canada is a UK Minor, the entire game changed. Severe advantage to the Axis !

Here is the final file for counters MOD.
Hope you will like them.
Just copy the uncompressed files under Bitmap folder (make a backup of original files first)

Absolutely brilliant work SIPRES, thank you. On the second zoom level, the counter re-set to the original design. Is there any way to change that?

That's because the all png's named "unit_sprites_nato_zoom.png" aren't included in the mod. Perhaps an oversight?

Marcus the leper: "On the second zoom level, the counter re-set to the original design"

That is because if you change the size to make the version "small" the texts become illegible
and we no longer see the difference between a corps and an army
... I tested

very nice counters

Here is a screenshot of germans counters test in zoom level.
I was not satisfied with the result (no so easy to read)
This is why I didnt include zoom level in the MOD

I will post them anyway later this week (just need resize others nations)

Hello Sipres

I will try to make a version "small" more readable by modifying a bit, I would show you the result.
