Messed up

Wa actually going to go for a decisive victory, and expected to be able to reload the autosave. That did not work, as it was saved after I took the victory.
I think that I needed to take London for a decisive. That would not have been too difficult, all I needed was to get my airforces to France/Belgium/Netherlands, at that time it would be a matter of time.

Thanks for the AAR. It was an enjoyable read. Sorry about the autosave killing your game. I've learned to save each turn under a unique name. Better to have a bunch of saves to delete later than be caught by some unexpected condition (bug or DE) that ends the game.

I've learned the Axis need to purchase garrisons for conquered territory to avoid having to use front line troops to kill them. Better to stop them from spawning in the first place and make the troops fight at the front instead of enjoying the "city night life" after a day hunting partisans.

Numbers
I know alot of people like some hard numbers when a game is done, so I have alot of them here.

Unit losses
Poland : 1 Garrison, 1 Corps, 6 Armies, 1 Mechanized and 4 Cavalry Brigades.

France : 3 HQs, 2 Garrisons, 12 Corps, 11 Armies, 1 Heavy Tank, 3 Fighters, 1 Light Cruiser.

Commonwealth : 6 HQs, 3 Garrisons, 37 Corps, 10 Armies, 2 Special Forces units, 1 Engineer, 1 Paratrooper, 5 Partisans, 2 Anti Air, 2 Field Artillery, 1 Heavy Artillery, 1 Reconnaissance, 1 Anti Tank, 5 Tanks, 2 Fighters, 2 Tactical bombers, 6 Destroyers, 1 Aircraft Carrier, 1 Amphibious.

USA : 12 Corps, 1 Armies, 1 Paratrooper.

USSR : 4 HQs, 6 Garrisons, 111 Corps, 68 Armies, 10 Mechanized, 3 Engineers, 2 Paratroopers, 1 Cavalry Corps, 19 Partisans, 15 Shock Armies, 2 Anti Air, 3 Rocket Artillery, 1 Heavy Artillery, 1 Armoured Train, 3 Anti Tank, 3 Light Tank, 40 Tanks, 25 Heavy Tanks, 11 Fighters, 5 Tactical bombers, 1 Battleship, 1 Light Cruiser, 1 Destroyer, 1 Submarine.

Germany : 2 Garrisons, 4 Corps, 3 Armies, 1 Coastal Gun, 1 Panzer, 1 Heavy Cruiser, 3 Submarines.

Italy : 1 Tank, 1 Fighter, 1 Submarine.

MPP LOSS
USSR : 106 (convoy raiding)
UK : 439 (convoy raiding)
Germany : 759 (all causes)

Research/Diplomacy MPP use
France : 100/0
UK : 6975/400
USA : 7725/300
USSR : 5850/0
Italy : 2200/150
Germany : 3950/350

Plunder gained
UK : 216
Italy : 131
Germany : 1933

MPP Collected/Spent(units)/Lost(units)
Poland : 75/37/1.518
France : 2.367/1.840/7.704
UK : 21.622/12.922/32.468
USA : 26.969/15.077/6.976
USSR : 50.816/38.229/90.490
Italy : 13.916/10.604/9.303
Germany : 64.164/56.153/66.075
I am not sure what these numbers mean, but I am guessing that it is total gained, total spent on units, and total cost of destroyed units and reinforcing damaged ones.

National Morale at the end
UK : 58%
USA : 92 %
USSR : 52%
Italy : 95%
Germany : 110%

Thank you
Yeah, well I had a save going, but I am not interested in going back 10 turns...But it does not really matter, I would have taken London in 10 or so turns with clear weather I believe.

Lessons learned

1. Axis raiders/subs are easily spotted and killed.
2. Airpower is key.
3. Next time, I will keep my French guards in the city, and then 1 hex away from the sea. Those landing crafts hit quite hard.
4. I did not build enough HQs, but then again they get really expensive.
5. The industry output of the USSR took me by surprise.
6. The AI can land a BIG invasion force, but are not very good at breaking out. One problem it has was that it build too many corps formations, and not enough tanks and armies.
7. Shore bombardment, without having the proper research, is useless.
8. Although tanks are good, you do need regular armies as well.
9. The AI bombing runs at the end was amazing. Bomber Harris would have been proud.

And big thanks to you for a great AAR! I really liked the structure of your reports btw - very concise and to the point. I also liked the size of your screenshots () and the way you used arrows and text boxes later to explain what's going on and to lay out your plans.

Thank you, as AARs go, I can do better, but;
a) been too long since I last made one
b) just got the game, so just playing one turn at a time was too hard

Thanks for helping with the screenshots and information along the way

Thanks for the nice and very interesting AAR.

I am currently playing my second game as the Axis (I abandoned the first game since it was to try something quite ahistorical which didn't turn out well: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4201265 ) and find myself struggling in Russia. It is currently June 1942 and while I have taken Leningrad (Major Capital), I have stalled at Smolensk in the center and at Kiev in the south.

The biggest mistake I made, which is now costing me big time, was to bypass Tallinn in my quest to try and capture Leningrad early.

I was surprised to discover a rather sizeable and well supplied (from Parnu and Tallinn) force which cost me an Army that was cutoff and out of supply, and now threatens to do the same to a tank corps and an infantry corps that have also both been cutoff!
