Hi aster, welcome to the forums. On November 30th, I asked the same question not just about the AI but the whole concept of the new Strategic Command, should I buy it? Within a day or two several very fine gentlemen known as Matrix forum posters, took the time and jumped in and calmed my fears, they were Xwormwood, nOknOk, Dhucul, Spzabt653, Good mongo, Gordian Knot and a few others, and with their advise I bought the game. Have never been happier with a game. Thank you gentlemen. I have been a gamer for some 25 years plus a beta tester for Matrix's World in Flames for 7 years. I will admit I am not a fan of eastern front warfare[Russia]in every war game with every computer company it is always the same you get bogged down in the hinterlands of the Soviet Union. What saves this game for me is the AI. Some time ago Hubert Cater put out a Pacific game called Strategic Command WW2 Pacific, a well done game with a very poor AI [sorry Hubert] it really hurt the game for me and I like Pacific theater games. If the AI that is implemented in this Strategic command had been put into the Pacific game it would have changed the whole concept of the game, I trully hope he will redo that game. Sorry for being long winded aster, but you asked for it I consider myself a decent gamer, not great, I hate to admit but the AI has been thumping me playing as the Allies and I am the Axis. To get the right combination of spending MMp's for either units or the many research projects is a game of it's own. Supply is the key to the game IMO. I have replayed the 39 scenario at least 6 times as the Axis, easy victories over Poland [always 3 moves ] and France, would do very well up to Dec 1941, had the Russians on the run for several game only to have the AI destroy me. One game I was gloating a little too soon, it was may 1943 and it looked all over for the Russians, and boom the allies landed in France and I had to shift many axis units to France needless to say the Russians lived to fight another day and destroyed me. Things I noted about the AI, relentless on the attack, knew when to back off, knew how to rescue a trapped unit, knew how to encircle my troops and put them out of supply, watched the invasion of Sicily, Normandy, all well done IMO. There are some negative posts out there, I will not be critical of these post not because I did not agree with them but because of the cardinal rule "Each To His own" In conclusion a fast slick game with a good UI, in the many hours I have played the game I only had one minor glitch, probably my fault, a very stable game IMO, hopefully PBEM will be out soon even though the best way to play a human is Netplay if players have the time available to them. GET THE GAME! Bo
