I like GeneralfeldmarschallWalterModel's Soviet playstyle, allot!

I wish we could see an evenly matched MP game with these settings though! It's quite clear that Hortlund is getting beaten up quite seriously here

Yeah, looks like I got my Stalingrad in 41 instead of 42. Lets see what I can salvage from this. Good news is that the northern front holds, so I have a solid line pretty much from Finland to Vyazma, and south of there everything is a disaster

Two questions:
1) Why the fort line from Voronesh to Rostov? No other use for all the brigades? Its quite safe to say it will never be needed.
2) How did you save so many (500) admin points?

Impressive blizzard offensive.

1. I had no idea I would be doing this good so was building a summer back stop. I still have one 50 miles deep in front of Moscow.
2. I have 4 sappers, 4 artillery regiments, 1 AT regiment per HQ. I have calvary corps with 2 sappers and 1 tank.I have changed out commanders.

What would I spend them on?

Well, that was a brutal winter. Looks like the mud is coming now. Plenty of time to rebuild the lost units at least. Now the interesting part starts. How long can we hold Berlin? Since we had our Stalingrad in 1941 instead of 1942, it should be sometime in 1944 we'll find ourselves defending the capital.

Every time I look at this, I practically fall down. I would assume a 43 push into Poland.

And now, to make things more interesting...Romania surrendered. Should be an interesting 1942.

OMG, i never ever saw something like that! i guess we see the fall of berlin in 1943. simply amazing work with your cavalery and tank units. 41 german ID destroed is simply unbelivable. i mean i had one opponent surrendering at mid 42 but his situation was not half as bad then your oponents situation now. congratulation.

@hortlund: what were your blizzard preprations?

Romania surrendered during blizzard early 1942? WTF. As already mentioned I am really impressed by Models defense strategy, interesting approach.
I assume you have parked many troops in the rear area not to maintain fortifications, but to save trucks? And how is the OOB?

We are in June now, Romania surrendered in May. Fear not, we will turn this around when our wonderweapons are coming.

From turn 3 it was clear that the difference of skill between you and your opponent was huge. He has obviously a lot of experience.

Good luck, the end is near!

@Hortlund:

Pretty decent. I did not advance after the mud, so we were dug in pretty well. We had a continuous line except a couple of holes in the south. Several layered defensive lines of fortifications.

A combination of things "caused" this I think. Game settings, Romanians, and me trying to save a bunch of surrounded units. If you look at the screenshots earlier in the thread, you can see the German positions at the start of the blizzard.

What happened was the Romanians crumbled immideately, this forced me to pull my entire line back, this in turn meant that I could not build up enough defensive strenght in the divisions.

Also, what you cannot see in these pictures is that Model originally planned to attack in the north, judging by his disposition of forces during the mud. The build up in the north made me focus on the northern defences, and as you can see, the German line is still holding from Narva to Vyazma. Model then could rail his units south, while I could not because the rail-lines I had were going west to east and not north to south.

So, all in all, a combination of these things. And once the line started to crumble, there was nothing I could do to prevent the total rout

Yeah, thats basically it. I had Stalingrad one year early. But lets see what happens next. Ive just pocketed his army in Romania, and I think I can kill them off next turn. Nothing earthshattering, but should be a couple of hundred thousand men. I think its 4-5 corps and 4-5 divisions in that pocket.

ok thanks. so as usual the rumanians are to blame for german defeat.:) just like stalingrad but only much earlier. that plus the rapid force relocation of model.

the only allies i trust in winter are the finns. as for the rumanians, i only put them at the frontline in a hex with good terrain and idealy only where they can be attacked from one hex by the russians.

good luck with your "comeback" in 42.

This is critical. As the German player you need to give high priority to securing a N-S line somewhere, during the fall. The line probably won't go nicely straight north to south, but you can get something that will work reasonably.
