There's another point about that picture. Mules have to be trained. By the time they are they are huge. An ass could be that small while fully trained.

Meh. They don't get appreciably taller during training, just more 'fit'. Like people-some is big (and had big parents), some ain't so big (and didn't have big parents). Others in between like.

ETA: The picture of mules you had probably were parented by Belgian heavy draft horses. Very popular in the Eastern US Amish communities. The Belgian horses are quite enormous-their offspring are massive in terms of mule size as well.

Here is another donkey next to same Accord with its head in the window. Compare the size of that head with the pathetic human in the pic.

Only if you get your doctor to label it a comfort animal.. Then you can take it anywhere with you.

MULE was indeed a great game.

I'm ready to start entering my first turn. Before I do that I'd like to change the Japanese base flags from those IJN battle flags to the regular flag. I thought that was done in the editor but haven't been able to remember how. It's a matter of moving art work around or relabeling it. Somebody give me a hint. I figured out how to go into the editor but can't find anything on artwork.

I am not signing off of this thread. I am about to start the actual AAR for my game with Steve. All nonsense, humorous or OT posts will still be welcome here as well as comments about the game in progress that are open to general audiences. As to the game in progress, I'm going to take my sweet time doing turns in the first couple of weeks of the war. Steve already has a couple of PBEMs going and does not require entertainment from me. I imagine the pace will pick up substantially after that, but I'll explain that further in the new AAR. This thread will continue to be open to Steve, so any comments you wish to make available to both of us may be posted here. Ciao.

Anyways, I thought of many ways to theme my AAR, put them in a bag and shook them up and you will begin to see what came out here. As time goes on this will sometimes be a musical but for today just a poem.
This poem is from a kinsman of mine, a gorn by the name of Agornmemnon. He is plaintive about the kidnap of his wife and has asked all his kinsmen to embark a thousand ships to rescue her and I must comply.

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom on the Moon,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of O'Gorna Doone.
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

She was a child and I was a child,
on this kingdom of the Moon,
But we loved with a love that was more than love,
Me and my O'Gorna Doone.
With a love that the winged Seraphs of Heaven
Coveted of her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom on the Moon,
A ship flew out of a cloud by night,
Stealing my O'Gorna Doone.
So why these loathsome humans came
And bore her away from me;
To shut her up in a dread dungeon
In their kingdom by the sea.

The devils, not half so happy in Hades
Went envying her and me;
Yes! That was the reason (as all men know,
in their kingdom beneath the Moon),
That the ships came out of the clouds, stealing
And feeling my O'Gorna Doone.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we --
Of many far wiser than we--
And neither the devils in Hades below
Nor the daemons found haunting the Moon
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
of the beautiful O'Gorna Doone!

For the Moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful O'Gorna Doone
And the stars never rise but I see the bright eyes
Of the beautiful O'Gorna Doone.
And so come the nighttide the Gorn Empire will rise
For my snarling, so darling, my wife and my bride
From her dread dungeon there by the sea --
From her room by the side of the sea.

A musical interlude

Somewhere (badum badum dum) beyond the sea
(badum badum dum) Somewhere waitin' for me
(badum badum)My other waits on golden shores
He's watchin' his ships, they go sailin'

Somewhere, beyond the sea
He's there watchin' for me
If I could fly like birds on hi...igh
I'd dive bomb the crap
Out of hi...im
