Following! Loved your allied AAR and was hoping you'd do an Axis one, as I like to play the underdogs

I've got to be honest, if the Axis start out as underdogs - which I think it is clear they do - then I've just made them even undererdogs what with losing half the Kriegsmarine, a late starting Yellow and then an incompetent execution of same.....

I'd bet on the Allies - but who'd bet on you?

Well that is really annoying. Am I in charge of the Axis or what? Or what obviously because Italy has just declared war.... thanks

Anyway I am asked if I want to convert the Roma (currently building) to an aircraft carrier. I say no. 200MPP - even with the generous instalment plan offered - is just too much.

I agree, especially given how late this enters the war, and you get a BB anyway for no MPP. I usually go ahead with the German Graff Zeppelin CV, though.

I would like to have built the Graf Zeppelin (a nice bit of Chrome) but chose not to because:

- From what I've seen the Germans struggle with too low a unit count (they need all the MPP they can get to build land units)
- As per real life, by the time the carrier comes along, most of the fleet are gone. In this game I have lost too much of the navy as it is so she would be probably sailing around the Baltic on her own.
- Maybe if a) I had handled the navy better and/or b) I get more of an idea what the German position is later in the game I would have chosen a different option.

I don't usually do any actions with the German surface fleet until after France falls (except some convoy raiding with the Deutschland), then station most of it in Norway for convoy raiding the USSR shipments. Every MPP that doesn't get to the Soviets helps the Axis war effort in Russia.

Then there was a bit of border re-ordering malarchy Adolf Hitler stylee. Germany's friends from WWI made good their losses at the hands of the treacherous Romanians. However, I have a feeling that the Romanians will remain Axis friendly as they know the only way to reclaim what they've lost is to get into Adolf's good books......

Big question is: What the hell do the Germans do now? Before any decisions are made lets have a little recap...

I have not got much to compare this to as this is the first time as the Axis. However, one corps lost seems okay - not so much the navy where I made the mistake of trying to do something while the French were still in existence....

The British are showing no losses - but I thought that minor countries like Belgium and Holland showed here???

Nothing really happening on the Diplomacy front. I haven't spent anything on this. It seems I don't have enough spondoolicks as it is without wasting cash on schemes to get the Spanish or whoever in the war.

I have spent (I think?) quite a bit on research and I guess I need to continue this, but also I feel like I have nowhere near enough units so need to get cracking on a build program too.

Long range aircraft and anti-tank next up.

The Italians just have no MPP! I have not used the Italians so far (apart from the conquest of the Monaco Grand Prix circuit) - and am loathe to. The Allies have already reinforced Egypt so that is not great. I will wait for Naval weaponry before doing anything with the fleet.

There was a British fighter unit left in the Cotentin Peninsula - but it has been forcibly ejected by my panzers.

The last resistance in Brussels has also been removed..

I now have to get these units to the East without wasting MPP on operational movement....then there is the Balkans....what about North Africa?......

What did you get for MPP bonus when you captured Belguim and France. I think France would have capitulated quicker if Brussels had already fallen.

I didn't make a note of the numbers but the table seems to indicate it was just under 1,400 from France. Belgium nos. will follow next turn. I am guessing from this table that Poland was 300+ and Holland 120-ish.

simple answer is if the ai or human opponent invest obviously Spain wont come in, if you do it may as the game has some varience,,,, built in random stuff that is perhaps a huge help to me running different strategies each ai adventure!!!

I try to at least kill the Engineer that the Brits send to Eqypt - what I've been doing is to transport (before Italy enters the war) a Corps to Tripoli, I march the Army that was there towards the Egypt border (to save on transport costs), then transport 3 more units from mainland Italy - the Army, the tank unit and the HQ to Tobruk. You really need both Italian HQs in North Africa to maintain a decent supply level. One garrison marches to opposite Siwa Oasis, ready to occupy that when the Italian's enter the war. Both Italian aircraft are flown to the North Africa front too (via Sicily) to near Tobruk (I upgrade the FTR first). You then gain another HQ and Corps in Libya through an event - I put the Corps in Tobruk, but you could just leave a Garrison there (maybe not for MP). Once the HQs are reinforced, you can bring all the Italian units in Africa up to full strength. I can usually do all this before Italy enters the war - you're then ready to begin a modest offensive and should be able to take out the Engineer the AI usually has at work in front of El Alamein. If you get lucky, you may even be able to take El Alamein itslef before the Afrika Corps shows up (and occupy the hill hex south of it. Sending a German FTR to Africa fairly early on also helps.

Didn't realize this was a fully interactive AAR! :)
I'm just a little but ahead of you in my first go as the Axis.
I bridled Mussolini so he couldn't get Greece in the Allied column, in no small part because I eschewed Vichy France for total subjugation.

This means our situations are quite different. I've transported forces into Syria and had sufficient in Africa to hold not far west of Tobruk even before the DAK arrived.

Yugoslavia went mad in late March, but I had double timed my forces from France over the winter and have swept the table in the opening move. My next decision is Greece, which I think I will attack just to preclude the British creating a diplomatic hassle at a less convenient moment.

Russian mobilization is at something like 30% and the U.S. 46%.
I've cut off UK forces on both sides of the Sinai and expect to land paratroops on the Suez next turn. The biggest question is how fast I can build out the German army for Barbarossa. I would like to take the necessary time to upgrade and bring back the troops from Africa/Middle East. I expect those HQs to be a big help. With Russian mobilization down I think I have the time...

u cannot spend too much!! Just remember the east front needs troops.. lots of troops and then more.. last game I built the entire infantry lineup minus garrisons and almost all the tanks/htanks and still needed minor nation troops.. its a BIG front...

IMO ranking of Axis reaserch
INF weapons
advanced fighters
anti tank and air

ground attack

the two buildtechs, prod tech and ind tech

folowed by spying,advanced subs
Without advanced air and ground attack you are limited in the use in 41/42 of killer air advantage in the east.
Inf 2 massively important
advanced air keeps your planes in the air...
anti tank and anti air helps but not as much on the offense as when you are defending in the first massive red attacks... I usually have my corps armies at anti tank 1 to start

good luck..
again u may need other things as strategies change... amphib if you are being the sealion! etc
