When Germany is to the point where it must put garrisons in the front line, it starts to look like clubbing baby seals :)

I absolutely can't understand Finland .
From my experience with Axis, the 4 Finish units are enough to make a continuous front, entrenched and experienced . Actually they are better than most of the German units and at that point they should already have 11 or 12 elite reinforcements and be breaking your front !
Normally Germany sends 1 artillery to support and they should have bought 1 reserve army behind the front but even without that there is no way that the Soviets can make any progress with or without tanks .
How your opponent could have allowed you to break his front in Finland and to do it WITHOUT a HQ is beyond me (perhaps not reinforcing to max at every turn ?)

Too funny!

But since we are switching sides, the key now is timing. I have to post a win so early he can't beat it as the Allies when he plays them.

Remember the winner gets dinner and all the beer he can drink.

Ps - Mark will hopefully post his notes at the end so we can see what went wrong.

Thanks for all your comments Vonik!

Well your contest is a bit biased .
As Axis is much harder to play than Allies, the one who plays Allies first has a big advantage .
Indeed you have learned what are all the bad mistakes that the German must avoid so that you won't repeat them beginning with the big France timing blunder that started it all .
So when you'll play Axis, you'll start with a non negligible knowledge advance ...

If your Partner posts here, I hope that he'll explain WTH happened in Finland and with his Kriegsmarine .

For fun compare your situation at the end of 1942 with how bad it could have been for the Soviets (my post about the ultimate Barbarossa strategy - take the assessment at end 1942 - http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4247863) . Note especially the Finish power :)

Vonik - I tried the link but could not reach it. Will try again later.

And yes, I understand the bias distinction and you're are right, but:

(1) he had played multiple games as the Axis against the AI
(2) I had only played twice, once as Italians only then once with Russia only
(3) he specifically wanted the Axis for the first game
(4) in board wargames, which is all we played until now, he is very good and we both agree better than myself
(5) for a long time in this game he ran a parallel game which I did not - obviously this became worthless later on
(6) and yes, you are right again in that MY mistakes (MANY) cost less in the long run than his own but he could not recover from his
(7) lastly, he says he would have been better off NOT plating the AI too much beforehand - it gave him a false sense of security (his words - not mine).

But he wants to end it on the field of battle, and then try to beat my score.
