The Germans send out a flotilla to the North Sea which picks up an Inf Div from the Dutch coast. The RN tries to intercept, fails, the Germans stay in the 3 box with some fighter cover nearby and neither side search. U boat searches in the Faroes fail.

In the west, sitzkrieg continues.

May/June 40 starts with the Allies winning initiative. Land for China and France, Combines for Russian and America. CW takes a naval and the entire fleet worldwide puts to sea. As a side not I'm a total noob at playing the CW. My knowledge of the convoy system is very basic. Steep learning curve but i'm trying lol.

Why aren't the Belgians in Antwerp? That gives them a small chance. Setting then up in Brussels dooms them 100% of the time.

OKW was very concerned about this, hence German naval manoeuvres last turn that ended with our sacrificing the Scharnhorst. We were looking to work an edge by shore bombardment or invasion if the weather shifted.

I'll take the exchange.

AXIS #2 MAY/JUNE 1940

The weather is beautiful. A sight for sore German eyes.

Japan and Germany land, Italy combined.

Japanese Nells hit Chungking for a change, and hard.

The Allied propaganda above neglected to mention a devastating British air raid on Berlin that cost Germany 2pp and was deeply embarrassing on a political level, given the lack of air cover near the capital.

This is an unacceptable escalation. The Fuehrer has accordingly declared war on Belgium.

Belgium is nothing more than a British conspiracy to weaken Mitteleuropa with chocolate, surrealism, and other unspeakable deviations. And it is in the way. Britain has done nothing but provoke.

Schlieffen Plan v2.0 opens with ground strikes on Brussels and Gort's HQ at Dunkirk.

A first contact between the Luftwaffe and the RAF over Dunkirk, as the British intercept with Spitfires from London and Sussex.

But the Dorniers get through. The Bf109s survive a roll of 9 and abort.

Only the artillery is hit. But it was still worth it. The BEF is just about the strongest formation on the line.

Various Japanese forward moves. Chiang is heading into the interior mountains, we follow. Terauchi shifts his masses towards Nanyang.

The Wehrmacht is at last on the move, crossing the Maas and the Dyle in force.

Antwerp is occupied. Paratroopers are deployed for the first time over the stunned Belgian capital.

Terauchi throws in both his bomber squadrons against Nanyang, and takes the city.

The US yawns, roll 3. No chit.

But the attack cuts the two Chinese Nationalist units in the mountains to the NW out of supply.

The Germans throw in a Dornier just in case and take Brussels although von Rundstedt rolls a 5.

The Germans rebase a strong fighter to Brussels and present a fierce defensive front across Flanders.

The Fuehrer is satisfied with the opening impulse of his grand offensive in the west.

The Japanese rebase a naval bomber north towards Terauchi's army group.

AXIS #4 MAY/JUNE 1940

Consecutive impulses of good weather and my opponent telling me to make the most of it. We have a good connection on whatsapp, where the business that doesn't always get reported gets sorted. A comradely spirit.

Italy and Japan combined, Germany land.

The Italians have more petrol than they know what to do with. Il Duce is showing off to visiting Persian and Romanian delegations.

Goering was surprised that the ground strike on the French armour was not intercepted: ftr 4 escort.

Whenever he hears the word 'escort' he reaches for his revolver.

The Germans direct their main effort towards throwing the BEF back into the sea.

There is air combat above Gort's HQ as the Belgian airforce reacts to Luftwaffe ground support. A Heinkel squadron is aborted.

Yamamoto's assault on Wuhan is a bloody affair, in keeping with the character of the war in China so far.

Despite HQ and air support the Japanese lose the Imperial Guard. But take the city.

Nobody cares in the US (roll 6).
