The Stuka hits the strongest unit, but we didn't expect it to move.

Germany's 2nd Mech Div careers along the west coast of France from Brest, entering Nantes and then La Rochelle. Forced to rebase and opting to head to Africa, the Richelieu is intercepted by one of the Italian subs in Cape St Vincent.

But the battleship does well to avoid damage and makes it to Mogador, along with a sub.

Another glorious moment for the Italians.

Can they still take Lyons?

The Germans launch two blitzes to reduce the pocket around Paris.

Georges gets lucky here, his INF can retreat all the way to Vichy!

The Germans haven't rolled great in land combat. But it's enough.

Guderian and an ATR reorg land units.

Turn continues on a 4.

In China, the elite Japanese 25 Infantry took Chihkiang and destroyed the Chinese fighter there.

The US rolled 2 and took umbrage, +1 chit.

The new Japanese 14 Infantry was transported from Fukuoka to Canton.

Thanks Ian for all these updates. I've been out of town for few days. Had time to do my moves, but no time to post updates. France is in deep trouble, but the Allies resolve remains strong. Due in some part to the level of US entry lol.

Seeing the fall of Paris as almost a certainty, the Allied High Command decide to do a complete pass, hoping for a 3 or less. They get a one and the turn ends. Much to the surprise of the German Army a french partisan appears all the coast right on top of 2 German bombers. Destroying one and forcing the other to rebase.

It's been a lot of fun. But this sudden end of turn is a blow to the Germans. Grand strategy may hinge on it as we are now hostages to the weather. Meanwhile the Italians and the Japanese are not bothered at all.

At least it was only a Dornier. But end of turn takes the wind from Germany's sails somewhat.

That end of turn hurts, simply because it means that Vichy will be formed one turn later.

I think it too late in the year for a Spanish strategy to be viable, so the Russians had better be prepared to have some "visitors" in 1941.

With weather having been bad through the Spring, I was hoping for at least another impulse and preferably more.

Now Germany is hostage to the weather, though Sept/Oct 1940 starts fine.

Is there a cut-off point do you think in attempting a 1940 invasion of Spain?

Yes. It the Axis can get an attack in early J/A, it should do well. Any later is asking for trouble. A long, dry S/O can save them, but a wet or short one and a close the Med strategy will probably not work.

i am beginning to think weather is too swingy and impacting in this game ;-)

I wonder how some variation like, no end of turn if the %<50 unless 2 in a row (ie if need <3 and roll 2 ok and then need <4 roll 1 turn ends), else it doesn't end until it is meed <6

almost anything to flatten the bouncing a bit...

AXIS #1 SEPT/OCT 1940

After serious deliberations Germany plays an offensive chit, the first of the war, on Guderian. Paris must fall, and now.

Italy and Japan also take land actions.

Assisted by o-chit extra rolls, heavy artillery ground strikes Paris, with some success. The Germans remain wary of the French airforce and hoped to hit all the planes.

The Germans declare four attacks and send in ground support against Paris. French fighters counter.

Rolls: R1 Allies 11 Axis 18

R2 Allies 13 Axis 3

The bombers clear, the fighters are shot down.
