E Europe start of Axis #13 Mar/Apr 41

Seems an opportune moment to get the U Boats out, and the Romanian cp.

China and Japan start of Axis #13 Mar/Apr 41.

Chiang's HQ might be saved by the weather. Progress against the Communists, but a clutch of reds will arrive next turn as reinforcements. I wonder if the US cares about Yenan? Would US public opinion side with the Maoists anyway, against their loyal Japanese trading partners?

Action later on I hope.

AXIS #13 MAR/APR 41

Germany takes a naval move, Italy combined, Japan land.

Germany sends out U Boats. 1 to the Faroes, 3 to Biscay, 3 to N Atlantic. But searches in N Atlantic and Biscay fail and the lone sub in Faroes doesn't want to fight.

A small but fast German fleet steams out to the Baltic Sea 4 box. The German press trumpets successful sea trials of their latest battleship, Bismarck. Rumanian vessels enter the Black Sea.

A lone Italian cp edges into the E Med. It avoids interception (roll 6). Controversially perhaps, neither side searches in the stormy sea zone. Balbo is back in supply, for now, and the Germans can receive oil from Mosul and a resource from Turkey.

Japanese units manouver in both North and South China. Communist-held Yenan is occupied, with no apparent reaction from USA (roll 3).

No attacks in this bad weather. Turn ends on a 4.

Allied impulse 1 of May/June 1941. Germany and Italy DoW Yugoslavia. No US chit. CW fleet assumes it convoy protection locations. Large Italian and CW fleets in the E. med. A naval air battle damages a Italian transport carrying Guderian but was unable to sink it.
CW bombers attack German production again.

AXIS #2 MAY/JUN 41

The near-loss of Guderian occurred in Axis #2. Italy took a naval move, tried to sneak the German HQ-A to North Africa under the protection of the fleet and air cover. All naval searches failed, Axis missing some juicy sub warfare opportunities in the Atlantic, except this one by the RN.

A substantial under-performance by the Italian air force. All but 2 CW bombing factors were cancelled by the Italian fleet's AAA, but this was enough to deliver a damage and half-abort result to the TRS.

Thankfully the next round of searches failed and Guderian survived, to reappear next turn.

Land actions by Japan and Germany were more successful.

Umezu destroyed Chiang's HQ with the assistance of attacking HQ support.

AXIS #4 MAY/JUNE 1941

No action resulted from Allied naval searches in the previous impulse.

Italy and Japan take land actions, Germany a combined. Germany wants to mop up Yugoslavia, take a shot at some vulnerable-looking Atlantic convoy routes, and shift some aircraft.

But the wolf packs don't find in North Atlantic (10, 9) and Biscay (7, 4). The only naval search that finds (4, 10) is triggered by a Stuka looking for a CW cp that has strayed into the Italian Coast.

The recently-repaired battleship Littorio is patrolling in the 4 box and duly destroys the convoy.

In all, a disappointing return.

Yamamoto tries to clear the valley NW of Tungkwan with a low-odds blitz led by a Mechanised Division. An assault on Tungkwan itself is still a bit hairy.
