Japanese forces in north China slog through mountains south of Yenan, but lose an inf div in a low-odds attack, with some air support.

But against the Russians, the Germans roll badly.

Rundstedt forces Zhukov to retreat but must pause to reorganise his units. Zhukov's destination was automatic.

Missed the screenshot here. Germans rolled 3 (!) in a blitz south of Minsk. They shatter a Red Cavalry Corps and Infantry Division, but lose a Mot Div and suffer disorganised infantry.

Despite massive shore bombardment, and some air support, German Marines are destroyed in a failed invasion at Riga.

But Malta is taken by German paratroops and invading Italian infantry divisions, though one is destroyed. Three disorganised RAF bombers based in Valetta are destroyed, but the formerly Yugoslav CA Dalmacija escapes to Gibraltar.

This at least is a famous victory.

As Luftwaffe units rebase en masse behind the front lines in the East, it remains to be seen how seriously Barbarossa has stalled.

4th Allied impulse saw a large RN fleet in E Med roll 1, 7 and hit the escorting Italians in 0 box with surface combat regardless of superior Italian air assets.

Taking losses, the Italians abort after one round when the cp they are there to protect retires to La Spezia.

Both armies in Egypt are now out of supply.

destroyed end of Allied #4 Jul/Aug 41

AXIS #5 JUL/AUG 41

Germany and Italy take land actions. Japan has a naval move, ferrying various units in the China seas.

Rommel can move his artillery into position on the Dneister.

There is air combat as the Germans attack into Ukraine. The Red fighters perform well, destroying a new FW190 and aborting one bomber.

The Soviets are keeping their air assets largely in reserve.

The Germans roll well in both attacks, first across the Dneister. Timoshenko's defensive HQ support is to no avail.

Some action from mid-late JUL/AUG 1941.

Allied #6 saw a series of air attacks by Soviets and British. A port strike by carrier planes on La Spezia delivered further damage to the increasingly battered Italian navy. Fiume was bottomed and Abruzzi damaged. An RAF bomber was shot down over Essen, but the Reds destroyed 2 saved German oil at Koenigsberg. A Soviet bomber was destroyed attempting a ground strike.

Axis #7 saw three land actions but just two German attacks. The Germans widened their bridgehead on the River Dvina.

The Soviets committed two bombers as ground support in an attempt to save Timoshenko's HQ from a blitz by Rommel's Army Group in SW Ukraine. Intercepting German fighters show down their I-16 escort, they aborted, Timoshenko's HQ was destroyed.

The Soviets edge back in Allied #8. The Axis get one more impulse than in May/June, #9.

Artillery ground strike against the Odessa pocket fails.

The Germans press on north of the Dvina.

Minsk has been left undefended aside from a disorganised AT division. It falls to an automatic assault.

The Japanese are keen to reach Sian before the communists can reinforce it next turn. But isolated Nationalist units do Mao a favour by holding their line in the mountains south of the city against Terauchi's assault.

In Allied #10, all but the USSR pass, and again the turn ends earlier than the Axis would have liked.

Destroyed Jul/Aug 1941.

Some high value Soviet units, German lorries and Marines, Italian seamen, the entire Bulgarian Army, and more Japanese than Chinese. A bad turn also for the CW. Six CW cps destroyed also, I think.

Start of Sept/Oct '41. Russians are trading space for time in an attempt to slow down the Germans. Railed another factory to the east. Here is the southern front.

In other news more American Battlewagons are dispatched to Pearl.
