This was the risky one, von Rundstedt in the woods.

Whoa! Too risky for my taste. If you'd taken a loss then you would've had to lose Rundstedt.

Far to risky indeed. This was surely a mistake at setup...

Berlin

The Fuehrer praises Field Marshal von Rundstedt for his "inspirational example" in leading Army Group South against Polish border forces. The Field Marshall is said to have exposed himself to significant personal danger by racing ahead of his panzer divisions in a staff car, waving his baton excitedly, urging his soldiers into the attack.

In retrospect I should have positioned a couple of extra corps in the east. Sometimes you have to gamble.

The best way to handle this is to have von Rundstedt attack in conjunction with a MOT. That unit will take the loss if the attack fails...

If the Field Marshal is to proceed in this gung-ho fashion he will need his own dedicated production line of motorized divisions. Unable to sleep following the excitement he has been compiling a list for the attention of the Directors of the Skoda works in Prague.

Church bells ring out all morning. Reservists muster at depots across the Fatherland.

The peace loving peoples of France and The United Kingdom, can't believe the audacity of Adolph. After declaring war on The Reich, British warplanes take to the sky, seeing a nice target in Kiel, they port strike with all the vengeance they can muster!!!

Using their surprise points, they lower the aa unit which fired on them to no effect. The result was 2 German BB's disorganized.

The Chinese in the north, seeing the Japanese trying to flank them, reorient their line to face this assault.
On a separate note the Soviets, never one to miss a chance for mayhem, advance into eastern Poland, seeing the poles are on the total defensive. Being a busy news day back in the States, i believe their was a badminton tournament in DC that day, the Americans took no notice of the Russian activity.

This is one of the few after action reports with the MWiF maps that I've seen that does not use the additional Chinese cities. I have to say that this makes the Chinese defense much, much harder. I would advocate the use of the Additional Chinese Cities rule in any game I played. The pictures of the Chinese front make clear why; it is very hard for the Chinese to supply their troops.

Yes it does give the germans a production boost. But the allies will gain a benefit shortly from this action.

Berchtesgaden

High on the Obersalzburg, the Fuehrer stands at the rain lashed patio doors, brooding. That damned Hungarian.

Did the Allies not spend 2 of their surprise points? Reducing AA from lowest 1 of 3 to NE should have taken 8 points, leaving 2 to increase damage. That would have boosted the damage from D, A to 2D, A.

SEPT/OCT 1939 AXIS #3

No declarations of war.

Germany land action, Italy combined, Japan naval.

There are many seasick Japanese soldiers suffering on the China Sea.

Meanwhile the Imperial Guard is headed somewhere in the South China Sea, also with a cruiser escort.

Forces of the French Republic have invaded Germany. Army Group von Leeb has sustained surprise air attacks, but there have been few casualties.

Goering is embarrassed. We will neither forgive nor forget these wanton acts of aggression.

But wait.

These are not the elite units we envisaged, ambling over the Maginot Line, but mere militias with pot bellies and WW1 rifles.

The locals in the affected area are advised to stay calm and to keep the beer gardens and cake shops open.

A supporting corps of the border force has barred the French advance from the far bank of the Danube. Munich is safe.

Meanwhile the advance through southern Poland is slowed considerably by the storms. Not even von Rundstedt is prepared to risk an attack in these conditions.

In China, Umezu rebases his supporting air units close behind his lines.

The indecisive marine Heinkel heads back west.

End of impulse.

No, when you play with additional Chinese Cities, the US entry value for each city is decreased, so that evens out.

In the latest in the way of atrocities, the Wermacht has stormed across the borders of Denmark. Rumor has it while there on a family vacation as a child, Adolph had his foot stepped on by a wooden shoe and from that day on vowed revenge!!

It may be the Allies are pursuing a strategy of getting USA into the war as quickly as possible. Alternatively, they have other plans which risk losing US Entry Chits. If so, well done for sticking to the plan but as CW I don't think I could have resisted a DoW on Italy to trap the TRANS and INF on the wrong side of Suez.

SEPT/OCT 1939 #7 AXIS

The sun shines across Mitteleuropa, indeed the whole wide world.

Germany and Japan take land actions. Peaceable yet stylish Italy, a combined.

The Danes long to join the Reich. Only a government of spies loyal only to Britain, and a frankly laughable military who may not even show up to fight, thwart this bold aspiration. Accordingly, Germany is now at war with Denmark.

The merchant fleet at Frederikshaven is a nest of snakes only too eager to defect to the global-imperialist island monkeys. The better elements there also long to join the Reich.

A squadron of He115c sea bombers launch a port strike.
