Okay, even though I have been playing this system since it was first released, I have to admit that I am apparently still confused as to which of these options I am supposed to use when a squadron is scheduled for withdrawal.

I just had a RAF Catalina I squadron arrive in Aden, so I loaded it aboard an AKV and sent it off without supplies (wanting to get it into action ASAP). After the turn processes I learn that the squadron is overdue for withdrawal and supposedly has cost me 720 accumulated PP!!

So which option are we supposed to use for withdrawing squadrons?

Withdraw when you can, disband when it gives you no other choice.

I thought that was what I was doing, but apparently not. Now I will just make sure to wait a turn before loading any new squadrons aboard ship!

Depends on the situation- often you can withdraw a squadron for political points or disband it to send the planes to the pools- sometimes you'll want the points, sometimes the planes.

Bradford, make sure that you are checking the Aircraft withdrawal list in the intelligence screen....GP

I do, on a near daily basis. It is just that months later I have had some squadrons that I thought I had withdrawn come back as reinforcements - and then a day later are listed as overdue for withdrawal.

What I haven't noticed is whether they are listed as overdue for withdrawal on the turn that they arrived. I don't think so, because I really do check that list almost every turn - but have been known to occasionally forget to do so.

If you check your reinforcements every turn, then you won't miss them. I look at the operations and electronic Intel reports every turn. If you don't, then you have problems....GP

The problem is that months later, when I am checking the reinforcements list I don't recall that was one of the withdrawn units. The reinforcement list does not tell you that the unit is due for withdrawal immediately - maybe if you check the unit itself (such as I sometimes do to see how many aircraft with which it will be arriving) but I don't recall seeing that information.

Yes, you have to check each air unit when it arrives. Also be careful of what buttons you click when withdrawing or disbanding air units....GP

witpqs nailed the answer on the first go. I gather that I have occasionally chosen "Disband" when the "Withdraw" option was available and thus the right one. I am guessing that I have a new more squadrons coming in where I had chosen the wrong one.

I wonder... when it said 720 accumulated PP did I really lose all those when the squadron was off the mapboard on the reinforcement queue?

I think I have noticed this before as well. What I believed was occurring was that a disbanded unit will come back after a certain time (90 days?) and I then withdrew the unit when it reappeared. As a Japanese player I simply just withdraw all units that need to be removed now. Some units are scheduled to return at a later date. When I check the reinforcement schedule they are where they are supposed to be so I leave it at that.

If you Disband a group that is scheduled to Withdraw you get the option to bring it back. If you click Yes, then the group will come back but be already be overdue to Withdraw. I suspect this might be the crux of your conundrum.

But I have never chosen "Yes" on that option for units scheduled for withdrawal (Edit: that I can recall). Thus the source of my confusion when these squadrons do return.
