This mod has now been released and is available in the link section below.
Please note that this early version will be far from complete but it will be playable.
An update is already being worked on to fix ship sets. Update should be done later today.

Updates will be added on a daily basis where possible, or several updates a week, where you download the update and extract it into the customization folder..... or download the entire updated mod as one download if you prefer.....







The mod is still being worked on but you are can download it below and play the game and get the updates as they are released.

As a fan of Star Wars my first attempt at a Distant Worlds mod many years ago was to create a mod for the Star Wars Universe....sadly I lost my entire work after 9 months of development. Now is the time to try again and this thread will go through my creation of this mod from the very beginning.

There have been a few Star Wars mods already for Distant Worlds however this mod will go into a lot more detail with a new look for the ships and characters.

With the sad loss of Carrie Fisher back in December I decided it was only fitting to start the first character portrait being Princess Leia back at the rebel base on Yavin IV showing an area of the base not seen before in the first movie.

Below is a still very much work in progress image of what the Princess will look like in the mod.

The mod is going to be around the same time era as Rogue One and Episode IV.

Just a quick note: this mod will not have Jar Jar Binks in it.... though I did not really mind him and his character would have been better portrayed with a different story-line.

Help me understand, you have a couple other mods incomplete. Are those on hold now, or are you working on all of them at once. I was hoping to play one before DW2.

Most of my time is spent on the Star Trek mod and probably about 5% of the time starting preliminary work on the other mods. At times I need to take a quick break from Trek and when that happens I do a little work on the other mods.

My belief is that this ensures the mod remains high quality because if I spend all my time on Star Trek then I could get burn out.

Star Wars may also need less development time with what I have planned so it could be released at the same time as Star Trek.

The other mods being worked on are :

- Voyager
- Doctor Who
- Battlestar Galactica
- Stargate

However these have less priority than Star Trek and Star Wars.

Testing the appearance of the Death Star in the mod....

For any Star Wars mod I think it is essential to have the Death Star somewhere in the mod.
I have the look I am after.

Now I need to work out if the Death Star moves through different systems or not......

I have been disconnected from the Internet for 8 days while waiting for telephone technicians to come out and fix my line..... so work on all the mods has been effected.

I have however been able to do some work such as finalizing the look of the Millennium Falcon for the mod.

This mod will cover the periods of the original movies:

- A New Hope
- The Empire Strikes Back
- Return of the Jedi

and will also include characters and events from Rogue One with events in the mod having a different story to what happened at the end of the movie.


I am currently looking at how to have the Death Star travelling to other systems without using hyperdrive and travelling at the proper speed. At the moment the Death Star is stationery but there are various options I am considering for it to travel slowly to rebel worlds.

As specified in my other mods the ships will be resized as the mod develops but will be larger than ship sets seen in other mods.

Be assured that each of the mods I have announced I am working on...... when I get tired of working on the Star Trek mod, I switch to the Star Wars mod ... and to a lesser degree the Dr Who mod.

Work on the mods is not easy at times so I switch between mods when I am trying to overcome an issue.

I have mentioned on the Star Trek mod that I plan to release an alpha version as soon as possible and update that with new content on a weekly basis. This will be the same with this Star Wars mod.


My Star Wars mod will be set around the time of Rogue One and Star Wars Episode IV and the very early alpha version will have just the Empire against the Rebel Alliance. The map will be a small map with randomly generated planets and not a set star map.

I will add new races on a weekly basis and once the races, characters etc have been added I will create the much larger Galaxy map with the correctly placed systems.

I do apologize for mods still not being available yet but I will release the initial alpha versions for Star Trek and Star Wars as soon as I can.

Below is a picture I created for the mod showing the Millennium Falcon blasting away from Yavin IV. The original image of the Falcon was pretty basic but was vastly improved when I added shadows to the Falcon.

This week I am working on adding the images for the first 75 planets and moons that will represent the major planets or moons in Star Wars. You will recognize Tattoine, Yavin IV, Hoth, Endor, Bespin, Coruscant, Dagobah, Dantooine and so on. Each of these will need heavy work in photoshop and will then be used to create even more planets and moons to be used across the mod.

I am also researching the map of the Star Wars galaxy which at this stage is looking like a complicated map to put into the mod but I am using Star Wars canon to correctly position where each planet is located.

I was actually surprised to see where specific planets were located. For example Yavin and Dantooine are at the top of the map while Naboo and Tatooine are at the bottom of the map with Coruscant middle left of the map.

Which well known planet from the films is the closest in location to Coruscant?

Alderaan!

I am also plotting where the Death Star was just prior to the timeline of this mod (Rogue One and Episode IV) . The Death Star was constructed at Geonosis and then went to the desert moon of Jedha....followed by Scarif , then on to Alderaan and finally to Yavin IV. I am currently going through the canon comics and novels to see if any other planets were destroyed in this time frame.

An example of one of the planets being added to the mod.

Early version of Dantooine which was mentioned but never seen in Episode IV.
An atmosphere effect will be added to Dantooine before it is added to the mod.

Planets in the Dantooine system from closest to furthest from the Sun are:

Doma
Camillo
Camooine
Dantooine
Bannokan
Tamarena
Dulbris
Purnell

First look at Dantooine in the Star Wars mod.....

I originally had more atmosphere for this planet but it did not look good in Distant Worlds Universe so I have reduced the atmosphere effect to a much more pleasing look .

Adding Tatooine using the blue atmosphere seen in Episode IV.

Time taken to complete Tatooine was just short of an hour.


EDIT:

I was not happy with Tatooine V1 so I have added more color and the picture below now shows Tatooine V2

Alderaan was a little more difficult to do with the only view of this planet being from the Death Star just before it was destroyed.

When I test the game-play of my mod some of the planets will be tweaked and made brighter for major planets but left at current levels for minor planets.

The Empire has been added to the mod and I am trying to work out whose face should be that shown on the race screen. Am possibly leaning towards the Emporer being shown here with Darth Vader being the face seen when the Empire encounters new races.

If you play the Rebel Alliance there will be a specific set of dialog files to copy into the mod folder where Darth Vader will be letting the Rebel Alliance know that he is about to crush the Rebel Alliance.

With the picture below I have not modded the race characteristics yet.

With specific files being custom for specific races the following screens will be possible.
The script is still a work in progress and will be tweaked over coming weeks.

The script for the Empire will have Darth Vader searching the galaxy for the Rebel Alliance and the secret Rebel base.
