The two arms of the Palembang invasion spring shut this turn...we will see what happens. Two Allied taskforces in Palembang along with 50 fighters.

Six large AA units (none of which have searchlights or radar); 1 Eng unit with searchlights and a sound detector; and still the AA doesn't fire during the night against these low flying beasts.

Destroyers sink a few Dutch PT boats; invasion will land tomorrow. 4 Tankers fueling at Palembang, and a few PT boats.

Davao invasion is underway.

Enterprise found...and yesterday I diverted TF Shokaku to support Wake Island invasion. Oh well.

1 Destroyer sunk by dive bombers. 2 strikes during nasty winter weather.

Balikpapen invasion underway.

8 Screening surface IJN fleets, 5 battleships, the mini-KB, all gather to screen two invasion task forces, one major and one minor.

The Allied PT boats are quickly dispatched, and the landings start. The CD guns score a few hits, but nothing to worry about and the troops are all ashore during the night.

Then, with a zillion float planes flying search, lots of land and carrier planes flying search, somehow, incredibly these raiders thread the needle, past 8 surface action groups patrolling, and lay into the main invasion fleet.

Just amazing!

And then they get clean away!

Palembang continues to see nightly air attacks.

This first attack of the night -- and wonders of wonders, the AA actually fires two bursts (animations) against them. Six AA units and this is the first they have fired. They don't fire on the other two B17 attacks...

You could call it the 5th Carrier Division, but I prefer TF Crane.

Boy, of the top of my head: Truk; Palembang; Khota Baru or Kuantan; Victoria Point; Georgetown. Something like that...Balikpapen too shortly.

Hi Lowpe. Very interesting read :) Following both yours and Obvert's AAR closely.
What's the situation in Burma?
Do you expect you could advance Nick or Tojo by a month, in such short time? I never invest research in their early versions for advancing, only cca 30 days before their designated date so my factories are repaired and ready to start producing/researching next version.

I am moving hard into Burma...I will post a screen picture with the next turn.

Tojo might advance one month, most likely not. Nicks will advance 1 month, perhaps maybe 2. But unlike a lot of JFB's I like the Nick C and will bounce the r&d facilities down the line.

Round 2, the Dragon takes a torpedo hit and three others -- 2 of which bounce of the armor.

Dragon is intercepted once more, but no fight ensues and she gets away.

Balikpapen damaged less than 10 points in both oil and refineries.

More night attacks on Palembang, AA doesn't fire but the Pete's interrupt the bombers.

Georgetown bombed during the day by B17...1 point of heavy industry damage.

The sub infestation does work...three total torpedo hits on IJN Cruisers. They should live.

Dec 26th, 1941

Some surface groups combine and seek shelter in Balikpapen's mine encrusted harbor. Two of the heavy cruisers have eaten 3 torpedoes and one destroyer blundered into a mine (which is my trademark...leave mines and I hit them).

Luckily there are no collisions and the tanker goes down...

The fleet disbands in port, with a wary eye on bombers. During the night some Jakes fly figure eights over the port and in the morning better fighters are on patrol but no attacks come.

Unfortunately the follow on air strikes didn't occur...weather or low aggression leaders (I have only changed one naval bomber leader).

The screening forces blunder into some HDML and sink quite a few, but also blunder into 3 mines sinking one destroyer outright, and two more are limping back to Palembang.

A look at the damaged ships in the Balikpapen operation. Among ships that count Japan loses a training cruiser (which I love) and the Allies the Danae.

But, I have Jolo which will be level 4 shortly and Balikpapen and Palembang before the Allies could get Lexington into the area. The mini KB is formed up and near Balikpapen along with a strong battleship fleet.

Rearming is tough right now, Palembang has a small AKE but they can only rearm up to heavy cruiser levels.

Minesweepers are busy clearing Balikpapen right now...and thankfully only one total hit from mines there with no loss of ships.
