This is awesome and terrifying ... at the historical time when the Japanese were supremely ascendant, it's more like 1945 with the walls closing in.

I have been night bombing Vlad with no result over the last several nights. Also night bombing in China where results have been slightly better, but nothing to get excited about.

There was 40 Allied Air attacks against Japanese forces/bases this day. Japan managed to bomb one Dutch position, but my deliberate attack on them failed.

Japan also had 6 night bombing attacks.

According to tracker, I should be building 350 Oscar Ic a month...my production is 60 now having grown every day since war the with Soviets started. Zero production is now at 90 also having grown every day since the Soviets activated and Tracker would like to see a production of 250.

My guess is it won't be till August that I can resume any kind of general air initiative and even then I really worry about pilot skill.

Also, Allies have taken it easy on me with no night bombing of Tokyo or Osaka.

Nope, in range but without fighter protection of course.

With what aircraft? It's January 1942, they don't have B-24s yet. Non-Soviet aircraft can't fly from the USSR, and the Soviet aircraft don't have the range to reach Tokyo/Osaka from any of their coastal bases.

He has Toyohara now, which could base US aircraft if he can get them there, but he'd also need supplies/air support/a big enough airfield.

Salute for being a Good Warrior and sticking with an impossible situation.
Some would not.

It looks like the Focus Pacific scenario without any Japanese reinforcements.
A disaster.
When is the earliest Auto-Victory kicks in?
This can't be much fun.

I figure he has close to 300 operational or more of the SB? that can reach out 13 hexes with a load of 5 100kg bombs. Plus there are a few other frames that go that far too. Normal range is 11 hex I recall.

It will get better, it was just that I was so out of position for this eventuality with everything, troop position, plane builds, navy position, planning etc. Everything I did in this game, and that was done to me (the 3000 AV requirement at Mudken) hurt.

The dogfight is long and hard, but Japan manages to always have more fighters in the air than the Yanks...but still a lousy wildcat gets thru and shoots down 1 Betty...

but the IJNAF pilots are excellent...if only their ordinance was better.

The Yankee carriers launch no day strikes...they didn't not spot anything. But Japan is hammered everywhere by the Allies...sweeps by Hurricanes, Flying Tigers, Lightnings, Soviets and then lots of bombings.

An afternoon strike on the Allied ships that threaten Japan flies, but it is small.

Incredibly important ground forces arrive. Aviation support in Manchuko...desperately needed.

The lcus' in China should enable some small offensives.

The Lady Sara and Lex are gorgeous ships. Looks like the allied carrier TF came looking for trouble and found it. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice and Betty makes you pay for it. Looks like Sara is in trouble with the fuel oil explosion and being so far from home, the Japanese can follow the oil slick. Actually the Japanese can rush anything into the area flank speed as they are so close to home and fuel supplies while the Sara probably can not risk additional damage a flank speed withdraw would cause and she might not be able to conduct flight ops at the time.

Missed this before, but I don't think there are that many SB's... I got active Soviets in 1945 and don't have 300 SB's (I think). I might have 96. I have a ton of range 7/9. It's how many hexes from Vladivostok/Nakhodka to Osaka or Tokyo? Is it 13?

It is unfortunate in this game that the accidental activation of the Soviets probably means a much quicker end for Japan. This has been one of the best early war AARs with a heck of a lot of unorthodox action. It would be great to see a mod that allows for a good Soviet fight. Perhaps a smaller scenario that only covers that theater and assumes a much slower commitment from the Americans. Reinforcements for the Soviets would have to be tweaked. A slower Allied commitment would mean more lend lease for Russia and ole Joe would certainly shifted some resources to the East-even if it were only a small amount. Some Yak 3s (superb fighter) and early model T34s. A few KVs as well. Not many but a few.

a lot of it was it was that this was an accident. if you prepare for this, you do much better. 7/42-10/42 if you have managed to take out CK, then turning against the Bear is something to see .... it means no india or aus ... would be very interesting to see ... again, it is about being ready, not having 70% of your forces aimed for the DEI ....

he's doing great considering the starting point.

Iboats, and during the day Nells will go after the Allied ships off Hokkaido...

Escorts are scarce, and the Soviets may bomb Bihoro, the only base twin engine bombers can fly from so Claudes are flying LRCAP to keep the base below stacking and overcrowding levels.

We need some luck here...one squadron of Nells is going in very high with Zero escorts and the other is going in very low with Oscar escorts. Pilots are excellent, but the fighter escort is weak.

Light a candle!
