One of the attacks on the Karafuto Brigade on Sakhalin. This has been happening daily. Today I managed to get the first AA units there, but the base fell before I could unload.

The Karafuto brigade is 550 PP to buy out, I have 47, so I can't rescue anything. They will be destroyed, I will buy them back, but then they will be stuck on Honshu for a long time.

Figure I will need at least one division to return to Sakhalin, recon to spot the weakly held bases, plus several AA units and enough fighters to protect the ships. Pretty tall order.

Morning Air attack on Karafuto Mixed Brigade, at 126,43 (Shikuka)

Rashin will be hard to hold. The Manchuko troops have 25 experience and 55 morale. I do have an IJA Division heading here, but it will be a few days yet. Another Manchuko Div and some artillery pieces will make it...but I suspect the aerial bombarding will be fierce.

I am not in a position to naval bombard for days.

Wenchow, on the coast of China, is fairly strongly held. It has supply production, and I need to take the base so as to be able to move north and west and free up the magic highway, but more importantly to grab some resource production from China.

If memory serves, the Chinese troops here are some of the best in the Chinese Army.

The British air force is in China, and my strategy here is to simply destroy all of Chinese industry. I haven't been successful so far. With no reinforcements from Manchuko it will be tough to grab a lot of terrain here. Burma road was closed early.

Ground combat at Wenchow (89,58)

Japanese Bombardment attack

Just curious, can you use your bombers to get those Soviet bombers on the ground at their airfield(s), as getting them in the air, at night, doesn't seem to be a winning proposition?

Destroyed a few motorized support here, I guess. The Tanks retreated out of Yenki and missed my Deliberate Attack. A few other squadrons attacked, but the best they could do was disable a few devices.

Overall, I wasted supply here.

Heck, I can't even score a manpower hit at night yet. Soviets have about 30 AA units, all 75mm or 85mm with 24 guns each. And that is just their dedicated AA, they have AA in a lot of their TOE.

Anything below 7500 feet will be chewed up by the excellent 37mm guns they have.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll admit, I've never looked at the Soviets early war capabilities, since, you know, they don't usually get activated until the end-game lol.

In just two units the Soviets have as much armor as Japan. Unfortunately, they have significantly more than 2 Armored units.

Soviet bombing and sweeping heavy. Ground attacks are just plain nasty.

This looks like it will be a very active front...it would probably take 5 fleet carriers to hold this area, if the damage to Obvert's carriers weren't too bad.

With Active China and Soviets, there will be no way to hold Burma for long I fear.

At least the oil and fuel is flowing now, I will take it for however long I can keep it.

I will have to find out where those Topsy have failed...probably flying into Hokkaido. I probably can put more on rest, I think every base has at least 70AV now.

More good news, only 135 days till I can form the 1st Tank Division -- assuming something doesn't get wiped out before then.

After catching up with Canos AAR I catched up with yours and I am pleased to see that you managed to turn this into a fight for survival in January 1942 for Japan.I doubt anyone managed to do this before.
Never change.

Ps you were right about the Sonia.

Rashin is not attacked, but bombed to basically no effect. AA and terrain plus lots of units here to act as soaks.

Two light cruisers and three destroyers bombard the Soviets, to minimal effect during the night. I need bigger guns here, and some are on the way, but many others are in the shipyards.

But will I be able to send anything else up here?

Just posting to say that I'm still following this with interest. You really are a glutton for punishment

Considering your situations on all fronts, my humble, uninformed opinion is that the aleutians are now of really marginal importance to you. You have much bigger bears to kill

To be honest, my main concern on your place would be the DEI oil. Anything else, I think you can survive without, but without that I don't see how you can survive for long in this situation.

I elected not to do a Mersing Gambit, as I wanted a more traditional, slower war. Well, everything I did in December was exactly the wrong tactic for war with the Soviets and every tactic Obvert pursued was pretty spot on.

The IJA will be crossing into Singers shortly, and it will be a horrendous blood bath despite the prep, the HQ prep, because I have been unable to wrest air control. Forts very well could be 5. The only thing I have going is hopefully it will be low on supply so it is critical to maintain a naval blockade.

Java most likely won't fall until summer 42. Same with Luzon.

However, the Yanks have to be stopped in the Aleutians. No question.

A pretty good day, we avoid Allied and Soviet subs...at least the damaging kind of avoidance. Destroy 10 Allied planes for 4 of our own (and 0 Japanese fighters lost).

There is one more xakl out there, and I can't find her.
