So, I have never really had success in using the miniKb, so what I am doing in this game is using them at port size 3 or larger bases, having them docked, ....

I have done this but set them to patrol the base hex they are at, set the days to 7 and (refuel options depend on local conditions), then let them run and check in on them every a couple of time per game week.
Being docked supposedly protects one from a sub attack but set on Patrol will also give some vigilance/protection.
I set the ASW sentai to 60-70% and they do improve the detection and increase attacks.

They aren't the most experienced of pilots, but Zeroes sweep the enemy runways and the base is lit up by three recon flights twice a day alerting the Soviets to my strike...plus the bombers are spotted on the runways all lined up.

Disappointing, as the bombers had good skills and were going in fairly low against the expected very light AA and over crowded runways.

Allies have gone quiet in the air for the last few days...no offensive operations from them. The first Tojo IIa squadron is upgragded, albeit with only 10 fighters. In a few days they will get 12 more.

Iboat strike...she gets an escort, and not the 3 xap or 1 xak spotted.

Destroyers raid down the Malacca Straits...only to run into very small taskforces. The first task force, sunk, was 2 motor launches. Then this single ship beauty. What joy.

A look at upcoming planes. Not a single r&d factory is working on any of these. Hopefully, the J2M2 will arrive too!

Huge push on Jack, the two big factories will make the Jack, the other will advance down the the line. The 2nd Jack is especially good with four cannons and SR2.

The difference in firepower on the three Jacks, is the first one has dual CL 7.7 machine guns & 2 fixed cannons , and in the two later models they are replaced with four Fixed cannons.

Then all the r&d will go to the Grace.

June 6th, 1942

Crowded into the converted hold of an old slow submarine, members of the elite 1st Marine Raider Bln checked their weapons again....for soon they were to launch a daring rescue attempt on Borneo. The battered survivors of the Tarakan refineries had trekked overland thru the jungles to reach Beaufort.

Long legged transports, flying boats most likely, stood ready to begin the air evacuation on the morrow, but for now all hopes rested upon the 1st Marine Raiders....an amphibious landing by inflatables at night!

Intel reported Japanese resistance as a light support unit.

A mixup in the orders prevented troop unloading 2days ago, it was rectified and the troops unloaded on the 5th, just in time for the attack on the 6th.

Japanese Naval Intelligence reported a converted submarine sunk for quite a while now and two more sister ships in the American fleet could be converted into SST, a small report on the possibility of a special forces landing on a very small scale by submarine was routed thru High Command. Although the warning was really meant for ports that serviced economic raw materials Japanese High Command had taken some notice of the warning.

Air search over Borneo had reported on the bedraggled survivors of Tarakan heading overland to Beaufort, and some troops were needed to bolster their defense.

There were several large warships nearbye, and bombers, but it was decided not to use them against the supposedly starving ABDA forces to save supply and on the off chance the enemy was simply going to surrender and beg for food.

Unbeknownst to High Command, ABDA was using their idle bombers to ferry in supply drops to the survivors and they arrived in much stronger shape than anticipated and were bolstered by the 1st Marine Raider Bln.

The 23rd Port Unit was picked up from Kudat and transferred to Beaufort. A small error in the paperwork caused a one day delay in unloading at Beaufort, but it was rectified in time...just in time as it turned out for the attack this morning.

June 7th, 1942

There are at least 30 Allied subs (American, British, Dutch and Soviet) working the upper SRA. The Kaga, torpedoed several times prior to Soviet activation finishes repairs and is steaming to rejoin the KB.

With Navy fighters coming off the new production, the KB and mini KB is forming up and will be able to take up offensive operations, finally.

The Navy fighter deficit is almost closed, but there is still a huge shortage of Army fighters and getting 3-4 Tojo a day won't close it.

Fighter Bomber strength is climbing, with two additional squadrons in process of upgrading from light bombers.

Known Allied fighter festungs are two bases in Malaya (300 planes total); three Soviet Bases (350 total); 100 fighters in eastern India; 50 fighters at Chungking; deathstar.

In Malaya the Allies have a slight advantage in raw assault value.

The conversions to Type 1 Medium Tanks is pretty much done I think, and in a little more than 2 weeks the remainder of the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions arrive at Mudken.

Sadly, I have to pay PP to get them all to form up, twice for one unit that got destroyed early on the wild opening weeks of the Soviet War.

It seems to me that the Soviet weakness will be losing the troops to fight the Germans, and their replacement/production pools.

So,this is the first time since Soviet activation, that I opened up a dummy game to peak at their TOE. I had hoped that the Soviet Army withdraw happened sooner than November, but...

So, whither Japan now? Some potent offensive tools have been added,or will shortly be added to Japan. The Type 1 medium tank, the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions, the A6M3, Tojo IIa, Nick A, Rufe, and looking a little further down the road the Yamoto and the J2M2 Jack and even the Oscar IIa.

Unfortunately, I plan on being boring. Hopefully fighting to a stalemate on Malaya and Manchuko, while cleaning up Luzon and Mindanao and then moving on to Java and tackling Sumatra and Malaya last. In China, I think the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions will rail over and help with the conquest of the Changsha production triangle, and or the Sian line to northern China.

The Pacific will see the Wake Island, Northern New Guinea, to eastern Aleutians held -- no further progress here.

I looked at theElf's and Alfred's excellent advice, but I was not in position either materially or by skillset to pull it off in a scenario one game. My shortcomings. My plane builds and r&d was all wrong given the Soviet activation, and I have had a 3-400 fighter plane deficit for most of the game.

On the plus side, my Betty/Nell pilots are excellent and at full strength, as is the Army bombing force although a lot of it is restricted to China and Manchuko.

The Americans have lost two fleet carriers and Japan one light carrier...

So cleanup where I can, grab economic production in China, establish a perimeter on Manchuko and Malaya, move on Java and then tackle Malaya by constricting the line of supply there and attempt to whittle down Soviet pools whenever possible.

So what is the goal...to last as long as possible.

Maybe Obvert will make a mistake and get too carried away?

Be interesting to see how much pressure you can put on the Chinese and the Russians

By Soviet standards, yes a T26 is light. But I don't know if the pic is actually a T26 or a heavier model.

It is definitely not a T-26.

I would guess it's either a KV-85 or an IS-2.

Yes, JS-2, a very late 1944/1945 model tank would be the Soviet heavy hitter when they 'naturally' activated in 1945.
Still according to the WW2Database site:
1,272 T-26 light tanks participated in Operation August Storm at the end of the war in Asia, which saw Russian forces attacking Japanese positions in the Manchurian region of Northeast China.
https://ww2db.com/vehicle_spec.php?q=303

The T-26 is smaller than the Type 97.

Unless he has T-34 and KV-1s in the region, the Russian armor shouldn't be any better than yours, especially if you can seize control of the air.

June 8th, 1942

Bombed some ABDA troops and this showed up...no combat to force the evacuation.

So far thru the first week of June, which actually includes the last day of May fighter production looks good:

A6M3: 51; Nick 29; Tojo 21. 5 Squadrons fly the A6M3 but one is a chutai back on Honshu. One squadron at half strength flies the Tojo IIa, and the Nick is up to 2 sentai and 2 chutai.

Lots of sub action, one Dutch reported sunk by depth charge, no Allied night bombing.
