Unless he has T-34 and KV-1s in the region, the Russian armor shouldn't be any better than yours, especially if you can seize control of the air.

Just that the SOV has a lot more of it along with a lot more arty .... again though, if he controls the air, he can mitigate that ...

A note about the Allied subs pictured above, there seems quite the concentrated effort to nail another IJN carrier, as there are several sub taskforces of 2 subs that seem intent on chasing the KB. I am not sure that 2 sub task forces are efficient or anymore effective, but Obvert does have a reputation of nailing large warships with subs.

Gives you something to think about. I suspect there are over 40 Allied subs blockading Malaya.

I experimented with 2 sub TFs a while back and found them to be very effective in getting tandem attacks.

One sub attacks and after that attack closes the second sub gets a follow up attack.

Happens quite frequently.

Having 2 subs in the task force keeps it on patrol, maybe giving them a 'second wack' at a shot when the other is damaged.

I have been using dual boats off the coast of Australia in a PBEM game and I got a couple of shots at American Carriers (with at least one dude bouncing off the hull of a carrier and 1 hit on another). A couple of I-boats got beat up but so far they have staggered home to be repaired.

Hans and Dan -- what does the combat report look like when a task force of two subs attacks? Does it list both subs even though only one attacked, or does it list both subs, or does it list only the attacking sub?

As far as I recall it lists one. I think I recall developers (and maybe Alfred) saying the way the code works only one sub can attack in any given combat. My opponent likes 2-sub patrols and reckons they increase overall success to some degree.

Hopefully this is the high water mark of the Allied SRA counterattack for awhile.

202 IJA AV at Temuloh with some AA and 15cm artillery pieces (two rapid fire 37mm AT guns will arrive shortly, type 1 medium tanks arrived safely at Kuantan to act as a fire brigade, along with most of the Wake CD gun battery and a Naval Guard unit.

Temuloh is CAP'd with 100 fighters, 75 A6M3 and 25 Tojo IIa in a layered low tactic.

The 36th Division is in reserve, on trains ready to rail wherever on Malaya while the 21st Division is on amphibious ships heading to theater.

The KB minus two CVE 21 knotters and torpedo damaged Zuikaku will assemble in two days with close to 500 planes.

With June here, I am enthused to see the substantial improvement of my r&d factories rate of repair. Jack is especially hopeful, I have the engine bonus easily, and just a rough guess might get the first plane off the assembly line in October of 1942 perhaps even September.

I will have a substantial production of the J2M2 right off the bat, and will still have a very strong r&d program into the J2M3 and then the J2M5.

I just need to keep Yank bombers ineffective against Honshu....and that is the rub. For the last 10 days the Allied 4E fleet has been quiet with only one active bombing raid of 8 LB30. Were they ferrying supplies to isolated ABDA forces on Borneo? Or are they in a mass migration to Manchuko?

There was plenty of Airacobra's flying CAP, but they were way too high.

Very interesting that the timid commander launched two strikes given the CAP.

Pretty screwy...I spent the PP to open up this chutai to Nick A, and everything worked fine, until they automatically upgraded this past turn and ended up Nates.

Now their future upgrade path is the fighter tree.

How well do Oscar Ic's match up against an ABDA fighter bomber...at range 9 the Beaufighter Ic is pretty long legged, and it even carries one bomb to range 11.

I have three tactics in place to target the Allied planes from Manchuko to Singers.

Bombers didn't fly on the first target in Russia, and the Soviets relocated their juicy targets. But three operations are in their final staging...and will be green lighted very shortly.

I have identified four main Allied bases to deliver the first blows against the Allied air effort. I am looking for more... especially around Java.

1. Vlad...Soviet: 200 Fighters, 100 bombers and aux craft plus 25 ships. I have managed to get three battleships out of drydocks and I am hoping a max distance bombardment will minimize the coastal guns. I have no clue on the amount of mines present. Recon and search is not reporting any. Battlehships, AKE's are moving into place plus blocking divebombers and ships to catch the ships fleeing the port.

Secondary Soviet targets: Yankee runway (presently no planes present), IL2 factory (100 fighters).

Does anyone know which is better at spotting minefields: recon or naval search?

2. Chungking: 17 fighters, 100 bombers, 100 aux. Massed aerial strike. Perhaps as soon as the next turn. The planes are almost 100% in place, undetected. After the runway is degraded (level 4) I plan on destroying the industry there with daytime bombing.

3. Singers and satellite air fields: 300 enemy fighters. Will start with sweeps from A6M3 on the satellite with Iboats present to pick up downed pilots.

So, of the first three major areas of attack, almost 100% of the bomber force (combined IJNAF and IJNAAF) are hitting Chungking. Ichang and Hankow are both level 8 fields. The Betties and Nells will have to relocate quickly back to the SRA.

SRA is getting almost 100% of the A6M3s and Tojo IIa.

Recon.

Naval Search is an area activity focussed on locating TFs.  Recon is a point activity focussed on identifying what is located at that specific point.
