I just wish it had been a duel between the two sets of really big guns.

In every game where the Soviets are active their CD guns seemingly over-perform.

The Vladivostok fortress, stronger than the Maginot.
Pay attention in particular to what said during last minute and a half;

Well I was surprised that during the night the ship could be targeted, but maybe it can be accepted if considered the big number of guns involved.

What weather did you have there?

What is of particular interest, is that the Nagato only fired her main guns, while the the Fortress replied with every CD gun.

Since 90% of bombardments happen in the night phase, what good would CD guns do if they couldnt locate ships in the dark?

DL plays a big part but also most CD guns also do not have that range.

That (only main guns firing on ships in a conflict), sadly, has been a feature in the game for quite some time.

According to Tracker, Japan had a slight advantage in range....but not true in actuality because all the CD guns fired.

At range 42, only the Nagato's main guns could be fired. If the range was 0 the lesser guns would have fired too -- to some extent.

True, but the CD guns would have been even more effective at the closer range. Your guns, too, probably, but the result would IMHO have been even worse for the Nagato and any other ships you had along with her. That was very much my experience playing as Allies trying to bombard Truk. Until I moved out to 20K, every bombardment run put 1 or 2 capital ships in the yards; just was not sustainable at all.

Yes, must be careful with range decision when bombarding. My experience too.

My range was set to 42K, maximum, but on the replay you can see the ship and her escorts I presume although they weren't targeted, got to 15K.

J2M2 Jack factories are coming along, a couple are down to 7 or 8 points of repair remaining. The best George factory is 14 repaired out of 16.

My plan here is to accelerate the J2M2, start production with the two largest r&d facilities which will give a total monthly production of 270 planes, switch the remaining 8 factories onto the J2M5 (skipping the excellent J2M3) and then when the J2M5 arrives will allocate the r&d facilities to Grace primarily.

The Tank Divisions are forming; The Yamoto and the Hiyo are close to arriving. The excellent 66th Sentai of Sonias (size 36) comes in less than a week and will be scheduled for conversion to Nick A.

WAD.

There is a serious misunderstanding underlining the posts discussing this issue.

Setting a minimum range for a bombardment TF does not mean the TF will stand off at that range and bombard. The point of setting the range is to limit which ship guns will participate in the bombardment. It is a way to conserve the AA ammo for use against enemy aircraft instead of it being wasted on firing at the shore installation.

A bombardment TF will run in to 15k or 30k yards from the shore to deliver a night or day bombardment respectively.

Of the 10 different weapon devices forming the Vladivostok CD unit, only one (device #863) lacks the range to return fire at a night bombardment. Against an amphibious assault even that device has the range to target off loading troops.

Thanks. The combat reports of bombardments don't contain the range information so we can't look back at it.

Probably a bug here, as elements of the division had been air transported in, and the rest of the troops arrived by train today, and the entire unit is in combat mode combined.

Absolutely crazy! Allied subs with faulty torpedoes are working as well -- or so it seems -- as Japanese subs usually do!

When it rains, it pours -- or in the Japanese version as I read in one book long ago -- when crying, stung by bee in face.

Trying to find some good news on the horizon -- the Brits withdraw most of their BB and CV pretty soon. Maybe that will open things up a little bit?

The way this is going those withdrawals will probably be replaced with Trafalgar class SSN's
