Hi,

I tasked six tankers to occupy a AAR anchor and set the 1/3rd rule active and also entered 1 as the value for units on station. This triggered two tankers to get airborne, apparently obbeying the 1/3rd-rule.

So my question is,does the units-on-station-value play a role at all when I tick 1/3rd?

My intent was to have exactly 1 tanker on station at all times. Yet I added all 6 available, to support that intent with sufficient aircraft in case I lose some of the tankers. Obviously I misunderstood how this works. I also get that the outcome of 2 airborne tankers perfectly meets the settings I'd made.

But what does the units-on-station-value exactly do? What could be a good example to use this without or in cooperation with the 1/3rd rule?

Thanks for helping me out.

I haven't really played with the 1/3 rule, but I leave it unchecked, and then it keeps 1 tanker up for me, and exchange when the airborne one runs out of fuel to use or give to others.

yes, probably these two functions aren't meant to be mixed. Will also simply enter the number then and leave 1/3rd unchecked. I guess 1/3rd is rather useful when intending to manage a bunch of assets to keep airspaces occupied.

Keep in mind that if you have 2 or more different types of aircraft, it'll do X amount of both of them. This I've tested.

In general, the 1/3 rule is very important for scenario designers or players managing large battles. I think tankers are so important they should be managed individually by the player. Designing the AI to provide comprehensive tanker coverage is beyond my skill at this point. There might be a post on this I missed. Sunburn or Gunner would know more.

This was explained in the manual addendum pages, when 1/3 Rule and the "Units On Station" are mixed, it chooses the larger of the two numbers.
