I'm a new player and I was playing the above Tutorial Scenario.

There is a point in the scenario where a couple of Fast Guided Missile Boats close on the Yorktown. I had ROE set to TIGHT, the missile boats were identified as hostile but the Yorktown failed to engage? Not sure why so I'm wondering if I'm missing something. When it was almost to late I manually issued an attack order with the Harpoons and was able to take out the patrol boats. Are there circumstances where auto attack doesn't work?

Thanks!

auto attack may fail for many reasons, but the most likely reason in this situation is that the weapons release authorization does not allow auto-fire of harpoons against very small boats.

Best bet is to post the file so people can look instead of guess why.

Thanks!

Two probabilities with this scenario (both conditions are the default at least at the start of the scenario):

- The Weapons Control Status, surface is set to HOLD.
- The Weapons Release Authorization for the Harpoon against very small targets (under 500 tons), like the missile boats is that the Harpoon is not authorized to be launched against very small targets.

Ok thank you for the responses. I'll look into the WRA for small targets, as I said I'm on the steep part of the learning curve!

Keep in mind that you can win this scenario and never fire a shot. This whole tutorial is about identifying contacts, etc.

Does the Yorktown have an AsuW Patrol mission? if it doesnt and you're just giving it manually plotted waypoints, and its "Engage opportunity targets" setting in the ROE is set to "no" then that could be why its not engaging. Set it to yes or give it a AsuW Patrol mission. Surely the Yorktown has guns as well as Harpoons? been a while since i played that scenario but i enjoyed it.
